Katie Elizabeth McALEXANDER 


Katie McA Katie Elizabeth McALEXANDER (1905-1996) was born on March 27, 1905 at Mack, Mississippi and married Fred Edwin PENNEBAKER (1892-1974) on December 24, 1928. She graduated from Marshall County Agricultural High School at Slayden, Mississippi in 1924 and taught school at the Mack school for a period before her marriage. On August 5, 1930 she earned State of Mississippi Lifetime Teaching Certificate Number V42, having completed her educational requirements at Tupelo (1926), New Albany (1927) and Blue Mountain (1928) all in Mississippi. Katie and Fred lived in the Marshall/Union/Tippah counties area and in Corinth, Mississippi during their early married years. Their only child, Paul Edwin (1934- ), was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Since 1937, when they first moved to West Point from Holly Springs, they also lived in Tupelo, Mississippi during 1939 and 1942-1943. They returned to West Point in 1943 and she lived there until she died. Katie was very good at hand work, and tatting having won many "blue ribbons" for her work. She was very active in the local Garden Club and the American Legion Auxiliary and served for several years as an officer of both groups. She was an active member of the First Methodist Church of West Point, active in church groups, and also active in other local service organizations. Katie, although not always in the best of health, was a good wife and mother. Katie died on January 31, 1996 in West Point, Mississippi and was buried in Hill Crest Cemetery in Holly Springs, Mississippi on February 5, 1996.
