DEPOSIT RECEIPTS
Edward Lee McAlexander glued his bank deposit receipts in a book as his filing system. In this particular book§ he placed deposit receipts from the Merchants and Farmers Bank, Holly Springs, Miss. for the period August 30, 1901 through October 23, 1909 which covers a span of 8 years, 1 month and 23 days (a total of 2976 days). The above pages are number twelve (12), on the left, and thirteen (13), on the right. He was very methodical in the order in which the receipts were glued into the book. Each page has two receipts attached. The oldest receipt is dated August 30, 1901 and the record goes through October 23, 1909. The odd numbered pages starting with page eleven (11) contain receipts in chronological order from August 30, 1901 through April 1, 1905 on page one hundred fifty-three (153) which is the last page of the book. Then starting on page one hundred fifty-two (152) and moving back toward book front the even numbered pages have receipts in chronological order from April 8, 1905 to December 29, 1908 on page ten (10). From page nine (9) to the front sheet of the book receipts dated January 22, 1909 to October 23, 1909 are found. Each receipt is affixed at the top on each page at the book seam, so each receipt is loose and could be folded over and the book could be read. Each receipt is 7 x 3¾ inches. Manuscript lines are seen between the deposit slips. He signed the book cover page E. L. McAlexander, Jan 2, 1900.
