Registration

Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. On-line registration starts October 1st and the registration deadline is November 18th. A Registration and Information night will be held November 4th to register participants and answer any questions you may have. For more details see the Registration and Forms page for details.

Important Dates (see the Ski Calendar)

Information and Registration Night: November 3rd at 7pm at the Nissitissitt Middle School Cafeteria

Deadline for Registration: Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Ski Dates: Friday Nights: January 6, January 13, January 20, January 27, February 3, February 10

If skiing is cancelled, a make-up date will be scheduled. The most likely make-up date will be the next available Friday, February 17th.

Ski Passes

A 6-week student lift badge or a Century Pass (season pass) to Wachusett Mountain is needed for the program. The 6-week student lift badge is valid for the 6 nights of the Ski Program while the Century Passes are valid for skiing other days in addition to the 6 Friday nights of the program.

Those who elect a Century Pass instead of the 6-week badge will be notified by the mountain 3-5 weeks after we submit the applications. You will need to go to the mountain to have your picture taken and pick up you pass. The student will be responsible to bring their Century pass.

Student Lift badges (except Century Passes) will be distributed and collected on the bus each trip. The student will be responsible for his/her badge once received. If the pass is lost, a replacement fee of $15.00 will be charged by Wachusett Mountain.

Equipment Rental and Discounts

Ski, snowboard and helmet rentals and lessons are available from Wachusett Mountain. Please select these services on your registration form and the student’s badge will indicate if they are renting. Equipment needs to be returned at the end of each night of skiing.

Area ski shops also offer seasonal equipment rentals or a buy back program. Rental for the season or a buy back program is more expensive than Wachusett’s Student Program rental however you keep the equipment all season which allows the flexibility to go skiing outside the program. I personally haven’t tried all the rental or buy back programs so I’m not in a position to suggest one over the other, but here is a list of local shops and their respective programs.

Ski Shop Discounts: Some local ski shops have offered discounts on equipment and services to Ski Program participants. If you request, the student’s name will be included on a list of participants who are eligible for these discounts. The ski shops will have a list of names only and are not allowed to solicit in any way. Each store has slightly different discounts. Contact the Coordinator for the details.

Lessons

Lessons are recommended for Beginners and Novices and will make your first few times on the mountain much more fun. If you wish to take lessons, please select the appropriate amount on the registration form. Although the student’s ability level is marked on the registration form, the student can take lessons at any level. For example, the student can take a few lessons at the “Novice” level then progress to the “Intermediate” level lessons later in the season.

Bus Transportation

The bus cost for our six week session will be $90. Students will be assigned to the same bus for all 6 weeks of the program and bus assignments will be posted at NMS and NMRHS about a week prior to the first ski night. The busses will leave Nissitissitt Middle School at 2:30pm and NMRHS at 2:45pm. It will be the student’s responsibility to get their equipment and themselves onto the bus quickly after dismissal. Attendance will be taken on the bus and verified before the busses leave the mountain at the end of the night. Any student who fails to be on the bus when it departs the school will be assumed to have cancelled for that day.

At the end of the night, the busses will be ready for boarding around 7:45pm and will leave Wachusett mountain at 8:00pm sharp. Any student who fails to be on the bus by 8:00pm and causes the return to be delayed may jeopardize their future privileges.

All busses will return to Nissitissitt Middle School at approximately 9:00pm. Everyone will be cold and tired and the school will not be open. It is important to be prompt and pick up your child on time.

Ski Equipment Storage while in School

Equipment can be stored at the school on the Fridays of the program. Please drop off your equipment in the morning, before school. The equipment will be locked and inaccessible until the busses arrive to pick up for the trip to the mountain. The schools will be locked when we return so all belongings must be taken out of the equipment rooms and brought onto the bus.

Nissitissit Middle School:

Skis and equipment should be dropped off each Friday morning between 7:30am and 8:00am. Look for the “Ski Drop-Off” on the left side of the building.

NMRHS:

Skis and equipment should be dropped off each Friday morning between 6:30am and 7:00am. They will be stored in the custodial area. Access this storage facility by entering the door marked “No Admittance. Authorized Personnel Only” on the side of the building near the gym and football field parking area. Do Not enter through the main entrance!

Inclement Weather and Cancellation

If the ski area and North Middlesex Schools are both open, the program will be held as planned.

If either the school district or Wachusett is not open due to inclement weather, the program will be cancelled that night and a make-up date will be scheduled.

If the school and Wachusett are both open but the Pepperell Recreation Department, in conjunction with the bus company, decides that travel is unsafe, skiing that day will be cancelled and a make-up date will be scheduled.

It is possible that lessons will not be available during the make-up day.

If a cancellation occurs after school starts on Friday, it is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to arrange pick-up of the student’s equipment that Friday. No equipment may be left overnight at the schools.

If the program has been cancelled due to inclement weather or school closing and you would like to go to Wachusett anyway, you will receive 50% OFF lift and rental purchases when you present your program ID badge to the Customer Service or Group Sales Counter.  Contact the coordinator to get your badge for the day.

Cancellations will be announced via an email as well as announcements at Nissitissit Middle School and NMRHS.

Terrain Park on Look Mom Trail

Wachusett has a Terrain park which includes jumps, rails, tabletops, and other terrain park features. To provide a safer environment for all riders and skiers in the terrain park, Wachusett has instituted the Terrain Park Safety Education Program

The policy includes 4 basics.  All park riders and skiers must:

1. Watch a "Smart Style Safety Education Video" which will be available at the bottom of "Look Mom" trail, next to the Minuteman Lift
2. Pay a one-time $10 Park Pass fee. Pass must be renewed each season.
3. Sign a registration form indicating you have seen the new video.
4. Show your "Park Pass" when entering the park indicating you have completed the safety education program.

Skiers and riders who do not complete the Smart Style Education program may use the smaller terrain park features located on Frannie's Folly, and Sundowner trails and in other locations around the mountain. The park pass was introduced in response to customers' requests. Our goal is to increase safety by limiting access to the terrain park to those skiers and riders who have the skill necessary to safely navigate the park and its features. You must renew your pass each season.

The Park Pass can be distributed and collected with the Student Lift Badge on the bus.

Meals

No eating or drinking will be allowed on the bus. Students may bring snacks and food to be eaten at the mountain. Wachusett Mountain also has good food services, although skiing time is limited and the mountain cafeteria can be expensive.

Books and Personal Property

The school will be closed and locked when we return so all books, backpacks, ski equipment and personal property will be brought on the bus with the student or alternative arrangements should be made. Backpacks and other non-ski equipment can be left on the bus while we are at the mountain however the Pepperell Parks and Recreation Commission, the bus company, the chaperones, and the coordinator are not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Any items left on the bus will not be accessible while at the mountain (the busses park in a distant lot).
