Directions for Pressing Fresh Flowers, Ferns, Grasses, and Leaves

(Preparation for February Pressed Flower Workshop)

  1. 1.Select a fresh plant and remove any petals or leaves that show signs of aging or bruising.  (No brown spots!  They create holes when dried.)

  2. 2.Place plants face down on acid-free paper (coffee filter or acid-free copy paper).  Leave space between each plant.

  3. 3.Cover the plants with another sheet of acid-free paper.

  4. 4.Cover top and bottom of acid-free paper with “shirt” cardboard (flat, not corrugated).

  5. 5.Place prepared plants into a flower press or heavy book.

  6. 6.Keep in cool dry place for about two weeks undisturbed.

  7. 7.After two weeks, gently pull the flowers and paper apart.  Folding or bending the paper around the flower to loosen the bond is helpful.
