(letter to editor, Boston Globe, 11/07/02) Father knew best 11/7/2002 MY DAD, whom I did not like very much, always said that the Republicans were mean and the Democats were stupid. This election season has raised my estimation of him greatly. So, get ready for a whopping budget deficit and a sharp rise in the unemployment rate. In addition, we'll see an increase in the worldwide hatred of this country, evaporation of retirement funds, women's rights denigrated, cronyism and political and corporate ripoffs, further disenfranchisement of poor people and minorities, cruel acts of petty revenge, and body bags from our never-ending war on terrorism. Thank you, Democrats, for letting it come to this. You could have made this election a referendum on an illegal war and won the election, or at least the moral high ground. You could have made this election a referendum on an economy that is tanking because of greed, avarice, and collusion, and you would have won back the House and kept the Senate. But your own greed, avarice, and collusion kept you silent. Shortsighted, righteous, greedy Republicans and cowardly Democrats have set the stage for a plunge in our country's international reputation that will take 50 years of concentrated effort to restore and a shattering of our national moral fiber that we may never recover from. Thanks again! You people are really a sorry sight. Remember, it's not how much worse off you are now than you were two years ago, it is how infinitely worse off you're going to be two years from now. Democrats, shame on you. My fervent wish is that when the body bags begin to come home, each of you who supported that bogus Iraq resolution gets defeated in your next election.
