Definitions


  1. Bio:   Information about author. Can include publication credits, hobbies, occupation, etc.
  2. Byline:   Author's name used with published work.
  3. Copyright:   The intrinsic ownership by author of works.
  4. Cover Letter:   Short letter included with a submission including name of piece, contact details, word count, and author credits.
  5. Electronic Submission:   Submission made via email.
  6. Galleys:   Initial typeset form of a manuscript sent to author for review.
  7. Public Domain:   Any material that can be freely used by the public.
  8. Rights:   Ownership the ways in which a creative work may be reproduced, used, or applied.
  9. Serial:   A publication that appears periodically.
  10. Simultaneous Submission:   Manuscript sent to more than one market at the same time. Also referred to as Sim Subs.
  11. Tearsheet:   Sample of published work.
