PRESTANT BOYS' CHORUS - May 2003
And at the Fort Worden Children's Choir Festival - May 31, 2003
PORT ORCHARD -- Prestant Boys' Chorus, a Port Orchard-based boys'
choir, is now taking registrations for the 2004 Spring season.
The chorus is open to boys, in grades 2 through unchanged voices. For
more information and a registration packet, call 360-710-1754 or prestant@charter.net.
Prestant has many exciting events scheduled for this Spring:
A day-long workshop for boys age 10 - 15 at the University of Washington
on Saturday, February 7.
We will participate in a men & boy's choir at the Northwest Regional
Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in Boise, Idaho the
first week of March.
We will join choirs from around the region for the 5th annual Fort Worden
Children's Choir Festival in June.
The Chorus is directed by Donald Stojack, now in his third year as Artistic Director, and founder, of Prestant Boys’ Chorus. Donald, a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, has also directed the Port Orchard Community Chorale for the past six years and is a rehearsal assistant of the Cappella Girls' Chorus. Donald, an active local musician and piano teacher, is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, National Pastoral Musicians and the American Guild of Organist.
Prestant Boys’ Chorus is a non-profit educational organization devoted to enhancing the music experience within the community by teaching boys ages 7- unchanged voice (approx. age 15) music theory, vocalization, and performance skills.
Prestant Boys’ Chorus provides boys with a chance to grow through musical learning, self-discipline, performance demeanor and working together for the common joy of singing. The chorus also gives each boy an opportunity to make a positive contribution to the larger community. Boys need education in music just as much as they need baseball or computer games. Music is a language that allows us to express what cannot be said through actions and the spoken word.
Prestant is a chorus open, by audition, to boys ages 7- Unchanged Voice (approx. age13-15), without previous experience, but who enjoy hard work and making great music! Boys in the chorus who experience a voice-change will be encouraged to continue singing with Prestant until age 18. The repertoire of Prestant Boys' Chorus reflects a broad range of musical styles, both sacred and secular, from early works to contemporary pieces of diverse cultures and traditions.
To learn more about our program, please read the following information. New singers may join by scheduling an audition.
Joining Prestant is a commitment shared by both singer and parent.
It is a decision that deserves your thoughtful consideration. Please
take your time and ask questions.
Uniform:
Families are responsible for the purchase of the formal and casual uniforms.
The casual uniform is a pair of blue jeans, red Prestant T-shirt, white socks
and clean sneakers. Each chorister may also need a Prestant sweatshirt
for outdoor/cooler weather performances. The formal performance
uniform, which is purchased through the chorus, consists of black adjustable
pleated tuxedo pants, white wing collar tuxedo shirt, red wrap cummerbund,
and red satin bow tie (approximate cost $60). Choristers will be responsible
for having a white crew neck T-shirt, black dress shoes and black socks.
2003-2004 Season:
All choristers participate in the following performances:
1. The Port Orchard Community Christmas Concert (Sunday, December 7, 2003)
at St. Gabriel Church
(They may also join in other events in the community during the
Christmas Season.)
3. Spring Concert in May - place and date TBA
4. Fort Worden Children’s Choir Festival (June 4-5, 2004) in Port Townsend
