Leaf blowers aren't just for leaves; they do an excellent job of "sweeping" your barn floor and are great for those hard to reach cob webs. An inexpensive one works fine.

Spraying a light mist of  furniture dusting polish onto a rag and then gently wiping a halter horse's coat before entering the show ring adds a nice finishing touch that is easy on the pocketbook. Be careful of sensitivities and of slipping saddles if you ride.

In the summertime, soaking a horse's feet in water for 15 minutes before the farrier arrives can make hoof trimming an easier job. Clean, moist feet are a farrier's delight.

Many a mishap can be avoided when teaching horses to cross-tie. To keep our horses from injuring themselves if they panic we tie a loop of twine to the horse's halter and then snap the cross ties to the twine creating a weak link that will break under pressure. The horses quickly (and safely) learn to stand quietly in cross-ties.

Why not take advantage of the sun with solar lights? We place small individual solar collectors outside the barn facing south and run wires in to lights in the stall ceilings. The lights come on at dusk and shut off at daylight. Especially nice for foaling stalls.

How do we keep those white manes and tails so white? We find that adding a little liquid laundry bluing to the rinse water leaves white manes and tails sparkling white. Careful! A little bluing goes a long way... too much will result in a blue mane and tail.

A palomino's color can change according to age and season. Foals born light may  deepen in color as they age. Winter coats can be very light, too, and shed out dark again. During these transitions, look for telltale darker color around eyes, ears & legs.
