The 2004 Windy City Pulp & Paperback Con
is now over.

ABOUT THE 2004 CONVENTION

In the gorgeous, multi-page article (which included our convention getting the cover) in the Daily Herald by Tom Valeo, here is what Doug said about how the con was born (the underlining was done by me):

Four years ago, Ellis decided to indulge his collecting habit by creating The Windy City Pulp & Paper Convention, held in Lincolnwood.

"Until us there was just one pulp convention-Pulpcon, in Dayton, Ohio," Ellis said. "It's been going on since the early 1970s, and I've made every one since 1988. It's a great time, but it's held only once a year. It seemed like there was room in the calendar for another show."

Ellis figured a show in the Chicago area would attract local fans who wouldn't travel to Pulpcon, plus lots of other fans who would rather travel to Chicago than Dayton.

Hmmm-I didn't see my name in the article anywhere. When I showed him the passage on Sunday, March 18, 2004 at the Con, he said he mentioned me, and swore he would get me a copy of the tape to prove it. Also, this was not how the con was born. See

I'm still waiting.

I guess he also forgot that there are other Pulp Shows, even the ones he attends. Classicon, held in Michigan twice a year, is the second longest running Pulp Show after PulpCon. There is also the Canadian Annual Fantastic Pulps Show & Sale in Toronto, which comes in as 3rd longest running.

Also mentioned: his book, his imprint, John Gunnison, John Lock, Adventure House, one of the books published by Adventure House, and Frederik Pohl. In fact, those were the only names mentioned in the article!

Unfortunately, it slipped Doug's mind that I was involved.
