Repair Log - Galaga
|
The guy who sold me this game couldn't get it working, so he sent an extra two sets of Galaga PCB's with the
one in the cabinet.
PCB #1 This is one of the extra sets. It was the cleanest of the three. I went through the board set, cleaned up the legs of all those custom chips (a few broke off, so I nabbed some replacements from the other PCBs), and it came up with a RAM error. Replaced the RAM, and all was well. PCB #2 I yanked all the custom chips and cleaned the oxidation off the legs. Then I put them back into their sockets, and used some solid wire to replace all the broken legs. I hate those custom chips. The CPU board, when tested against PCB #1's video board, had an EPROM error. I reseated the EPROMs and all was well with the CPU. The video board is dead, still have to solve this one. Could be anything, I'll update this page when I make some progress on it (although it'll be a while before I'm tempted to fix this board, too many other problems to fix). PCB #3 As with PCB #2, I yanked all the custom chips, cleaned off the oxidation using a pencil eraser, put them back in their sockets, and fixed up the broken legs. The video board, when paired with PCB #1's CPU board, reported a RAM error, so I desoldered the bad RAM, put in a socket and a new RAM, and all was well with that one. The CPU board is dead, still have to solve it's issue. I'll update this page when I make some progress on it (but again, it'll be a while before I'm tempted to fix this board, too many other problems to fix). See also: |
