The Monitor
The red started disappearing intermittently from the monitor. Reflowed solder to a cold solder joint on the neck board, and all was well. PCB #1 This is the PCB that came with the cabinet. It had two problems: there was no voice sound, and the colors were wrong on the grunts, the attract screen, and in a few other places. The voice problem is pretty common (the voice synthesizer chip is prone to failures), but I had no idea where to attack the color issue, so I took the cheesy way out and picked up another PCB from Great Western Trading Co. I know you've seen me take the easy way out a few times here, but I really do intend to fix these things up. I'm just very short on time. PCB #2 This PCB ran for two years without a hitch; then it started having intermittent problems with ROM errors and resetting. I've got a Gauntlet II PCB in the game while I work on this one. I need to build an adapter for my test bench and duplicate the problem there, and then I'll update this page with what I find. See also: |
