Repair Log - Satan's Hollow

The Power Supply

After moving to my new house, the game suddenly stopped working. I measured the voltages, they were all fine, but the RESET line wasn't sending the correct voltage. If I knew what I know now, I would've repaired the power supply (by shotgunning all the chips, transistors, and caps that were part of the reset circuit), but I didn't, so I popped a switcher in. Other people who've done this to an MCR/II class game (Tron, Satan's Hollow, etc) have reported a buzzing sound in the attract mode when they do this, and I'm no exception. I'm going to try putting in a new switcher, and if that doesn't fix the attract mode sound, I'll stick a big filter cap on the +12 and see if that helps. I'll update this page when I give this a shot.

The Dual Amp

The game had a problem where shots, bombs dropping, etc, would only make noises about half the time. I took a look at the dual amp, and found that it was missing one of the amp chips. Stuck in a replacement dual amp board (it costs about the same as the MB3730 amp chip) and all was well.

The PCB

After being moved to my house, the PCB reported a "sound interface error". I had a spare PCB, so I just threw that in the cabinet, but this is probably a case of bad PCB interconnect cables. Eventually I'll try replacing them with short SCSI cables, and I'll update this page when I do.
