PARANORMAL MATES SOCIETY: LONG TALL FURRY
by Rachel Bo

Available beginning February 3rd, 2006 at
www.changelingpress.com!

Cursed long ago by an Amazonian witch-woman, the
females of Sinna’s family are fated to spend their
lives as Brazilian fire serpents, shapeshifters obsessed
with finding ways to dissipate heat - both the fever
of their bodies and the smoldering flames of sexual
desire that will some day consume them.

Driven to distraction by the callous, unsatisfying one
night stands that have been her family’s mainstay
on the sexual front, Sinna longs for a man who can
properly quench her raging desires.

On a dare, she joins the Paranormal Mates Society,
thinking that at the very least it might be interesting
to try a werewolf sandwich, or to discover whether a
satyr’s sexual appetite can match her own.  Instead,
she’s drawn by the most unlikely profile - that of a
Yeti, a creature whose very existence is diametrically
opposed to hers.

They’re either destined for meltdown...or in for the
steamiest ride of their lives!

EXCERPT:

Long Tall scanned the people crowding the small building that
passed for an airport terminal in Jomsom. Instinctively, his gaze
latched onto a tall black woman striding purposefully in his direction,
and his breath caught.

Majestic, yes. And statuesque. And he could see how she might
seem imposing to the average non-shifter.

To him, she was absolutely beautiful.

She stopped a few feet away, eyeing him a bit apprehensively.
Goss allowed himself to drink her in. From the top of her ebony
head to the tip of her scarlet heels, she was everything he could
want in a woman. Strong without appearing masculine, shapely
without looking like a faint breeze might blow her away. As a
matter of fact, he realized he’d never known what a “substantial”
woman was, until this moment.

Her lids swept down, long lashes tickling her cheeks as her dark
skin flushed a sort of midnight purple at his regard. Goss shook
himself and reached out a hand. “I’m Goss Kemini, and…I’m
VERY glad to meet you.” To his surprise, his voice came out
thick and husky. A woman had never had this type of effect on
him before.

2hot looked up and set down her suitcase, then grasped his hand.
“I’m Sinna. Sinna Anjel.”

Despite her size and obvious strength, her hand trembled in his grip.
Goss bit back a frown and broke the contact. “Let me get your bag.”

He led her skillfully through a group of milling tourists to the parking
lot. He tossed her bags in the back of his hardy sport utility vehicle
and assisted her into the passenger seat. Starting the engine, he
swung smoothly onto the main thoroughfare and began the long
drive home.

For the three hours it took to drive to the small town at the base
of the mountain that was his home, they barely spoke. Sinna sat
tensely beside him, her hands clasped tightly in her lap, staring
out the window. Every now and then he detected a tremor going
through her.

God, could he truly be so frightening?

When he’d seen her in the terminal, he’d thought she was perfect,
but now he regretted the impulse that had made him invite her.
What appeal was there in befriending a trembling puppy? He had
anticipated something more like coming to terms with a wild Mustang.

At the village, he parked and stepped around to her door. “The way’s
a bit rugged from here on in. We’ll be switching vehicles now.”

He opened the door for her and waited as she stepped out.

“Hang on a minute.” Sinna unlocked her bag and reached inside.
Turning, she sat on the edge of the passenger seat and slipped off
her heels, tugging on a pair of sturdy sneakers. She tossed the heels
into her bag and zipped it shut. “Okay, I’m ready.”

Goss grabbed her bag and led her to a snow-treaded, heavy-duty
all terrain vehicle built exactly to his specifications. Sinna’s eyes
widened, but she said nothing as he handed her a helmet and
climbed on board. She pulled the helmet over her head and hopped
on behind him. “Let’s go!”

He couldn’t help showing off, gunning the motor and doing a
three-sixty before they shot up the side of the mountain.

The wind’s roar and the engine’s rumble were all he could hear,
music to his ears as they skated over the brittle snow toward his
home. He almost forgot Sinna was there, until her arms tightened
painfully around his middle and she yelled “Stop!” in his ear.

Goss killed the engine, sliding to a standstill. Sinna slid off the ATV,
and stood in the knee-deep snow, panting heavily.

“Are you all right?” He thought she was scared, until she raised
her eyes. The pupil was now a vertical slit, and her topaz irises
rimmed in red. Astonished, he stood there unbelieving and
watched as she tore at her clothes, kicking off her sneakers,
peeling away her skin-tight jeans, tossing her thick sweater
over her head.
