Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grand-father passed away
Sunday, November 18, 2007, surrounded by family at the age of 82.
Marcel was born August 4, 1925 in Bay City to the late Joseph and
Stella (Cichocki) Sujkowski. He was united in marriage to Leona "Lee"
Kelpinski October 2, 1948 in St. James Catholic Church; she survives
him. Marcel served his country during WWII with the 126th
U.S.
Naval Construction Battalion where he witnessed the military surrender
of the Japanese Empire on Okinawa, August 14, 1945. He was employed by
Bay City Shovels and then GM Grey Iron Foundry prior to his retirement
September 7, 1987. Marcel was a member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church
where he served on Funeral Luncheon Team #2 and as lector for many
years, its Athletic Club, the St. George Society where he was the
Thursday Night Bingo caller, the League
of Catholic Women and Men, Knights of Columbus Council 4102, lifetime member of V.F.W. Post
485, lifetime charter member of the National WWII Memorial Society,
the Alliance of Retired Americans, and was treasurer of UAW Local #668.
Marcel was very proud of his Polish heritage and of his military
service. He enjoyed working out at the YMCA weekly, and was an avid
gardener; Marcel will be greatly missed.
Surviving besides Lee,
his loving wife of 59 years, are his four children: Peggy (Jack)
Harris, Richard, Timothy (Cathy), and Ronald; five grandchildren: John
and Jeff (Andrea) Harris, Megan (Mike) Major, and Dana and Sarah
Sujkowski; four great-grandchildren: Logan, Ben, Olivia and Fallon
Harris; and several nieces and nephews. Marcel was preceded in death by
four sisters: Clementine Marande, Sarah Krakowski, Delphine Baker and Mary Marcinkowski; and two brothers, John and Joseph.
The Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21,
2007 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Edward J. Konieczka will
officiate with entombment to follow in St. Patrick Mausoleum under the
auspices of the Bay Area Veterans Council. Friends may call at the
Stapish Cederberg Funeral Home East on Tuesday from 2:00 until 8:00
p.m. where a Vigil for the Deceased and Knights of Columbus Bible
Presentation will take place at 7:00 p.m. Marcel will
lie in
state at church Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Those
planning an expres-sion of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to
the YMCA Building Fund, St. Hyacinth Catholic Church or the V.F.W.
