Phyllis Ransom, beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, died Tuesday morning, September 13, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 24, 1953 in Marietta, GA, to the late Lee R. Hendrix and Catherine Virginia Toole.

On May 5, 1978, she married Donald K. Ransom and was well known for her gentle and sweet thoughts and positive input on any subject. Patiently warm and understanding, she was famous for her homemade and intricately decorated birthday cakes. She taught preschool at Beech Haven Preschool before finding her true calling as a hair stylist and color specialist at A Flair with Hair and recently Karma Salon. She participated in the Look Good, Feel Better program designed to help cancer patients feel better about their appearance while undergoing treatment. She also participated in Locks of Love and was a dedicated Relay for Life team member of "The Do Crew." On the Athens music scene, she was a singer for the Night Blooming Jazzmen. Phyllis was a devoted mother who lovingly raised her three children, was a well-loved room mother, and was active with the Oconee County Band Boosters for many years.

Phyllis is survived be her husband of 27 years, Donald Kenneth; children Briana Lee, Anthony Kenneth, and Taylor Scott; her mother Catherine Lane; sisters Pamela Barker and Ellen Daniel, and brother Robert Hendrix. Nieces and nephews include Robin and Greta Barker and Emmy Hendrix, her mother in law Shirley Ransom; sister in law and brother in law, Catherine and Ray Nolin.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2005 at Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2005 at Bernstein Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Relay for Life Oconee County.
