The Dave Brown RCFS comes as a complete package; software, a dual joystick control, instruction manual and the optional Hangar CD. The software can be purchased seperately and a Futaba Conquest or Attack transmitter or buddy box can be converted for use as a joystick control. Another option is to use an existing R/C transmitter with a commercially available interface. The interface connects between the trainer port of the transmitter and the game port of the computer. This allows the transmitter to be used with full functionality. All that is required to get started is a 386 or faster IBM or compatible computer system with EGA, VGA, or SVGA color graphics. A SoundBlaster® or 100% compatible sound card is supported but not required. The Flight Simulator and Hangar programs are DOS based, but will install and run just as well in Windows95. The RCFS supports SoundBlaster, Adlib or 100% compatible sound cards. These cards give the ability to simulate realistic engine, rotor, and crash sounds. The airplane models can have 2-stroke, 4-stroke, electric, racing, and rocket engine sounds. The helicopter has separate engine and rotor sounds. If one of the above sound cards is not present in the system, the simulation will have no sound. The software is suppied on a 3 1/2" floppy disk. An install script provides for simple installation for the disk. The joystick controller is plugged into the computer's game port and the program is ready to run. When the program is loaded, a simple menu driven system allows the user to choose between airplane and helicopter simulations, choose different models of each, alter the flying characteristics, and change the wind parameters. The software comes pre-configured with 10 airplanes and 10 helicopters models. The airplanes include Trainer, Intermediate, Advanced, Pylon, Fun-Fly, Pattern, Ducted Fan, Glider, Rocket, and Biplane models. Helicopters range in difficulty from trainers up to the highly aerobatic model called Hot-Pink. Each aircraft's unique flying characteristics can be changed using the set-up menus. All helicopters have adjustable pitch curves which can changed to suit any flying style. One curve is for normal flight, the other is for inverted. Aircraft options include choices of 6 different aircraft shapes, color, and landing gear configuration. All the scenery, such as the barn, trees, lake, and mountains, are positioned to help the user navigate around the field. The clouds change in perspective as the model flies. All graphics are shown in smooth animation and in vivid color. The RCFS has two competition courses complete with functional limbo poles. The aircraft simulator has a fully-functional pylon racing course. The three pylons mark out the course and have lights to tell the pilot where the plane is in relation to the pylon. Helicopter users have a competition course with helipads and corner flags. The RCFS also comes with an ANALYZE program. This program allows accurate simulation of any conventional R/C airplane by inputting it's measurements from the actual model or from plans. These measurements include areas, c.g. location, wing airfoil type, engine size, etc. Experimentation is possible by changing any of the parameters to determine the effect it will have on the model. Physical data is available for several models which can be entered into the program. The HANGAR is a library of 280 ready to fly airplane simulations. A model can be chosen from leading kit manufacturers such as Midwest, Sig, Modeltech, Concept Models, Carl Goldberg, Lanier R/C, Great Planes, Pica, US AirCore, etc. or a model published in a major R/C magazine. Airplane types available include trainers, intermediates, sportsters, fun-fly, pattern, gliders, pylon racers, biplanes, ducted-fan, semi-scale, and scale. Dave Brown RCFS Version 5.0 Update, Updates any version of RCFS5. This corrects several minor problems, including mouse problems, joystick calibration, and slight changes to the snap/spin characteristics of aircraft. NOTE: This may allow the RCFS sound to work with a Wave Table card but no guarantee is made. It has worked on many Wave Table machines on which this update has been tested. Dave Brown RCFS Version 4.07 Update, final update to Version 4.0. Updates for any version of RCFS4.x to 4.07. This corrects several minor problems, including improper throttle response with some systems. Also, this update incorporates an advanced setup page in both the airplane and helicopter programs where advanced pilots can alter mixing, etc. |
