BUILDING HISTORY--1891
(taken from the editions of The Reeseville Review)

17 Jan 1891:  J.J. Solon has moved his old house east on Hilliker Street where it will be occupied by a tenant.  He has also moved his barn and shed so as to give his new dwelling a full view of the street.  Contract has been let for building a brick cheese factory south of here.  Let at $90 for some 26,000 board feet.

24 Jan 1891:
 Review building has new location, being moved to Fred Etscheid lot on east side of Main Street with view to get nearer center of village and also to make room for grading of our residence lot.

20 Mar 1891:
  A.E. Wekerling has sold saloon and fixtures to Carl Uttech of Lebanon for $3500.  His son-in-law, H.A. Berschneider, to run the place.

27 Mar 1891:
  Reinhard and Klug to put up new office in their lumber yard.  P.J. Conery bought Lot 1, Block F of Thomas Newman for $165.  To put up a 2 story building for shop and dwelling.

10 Apr 1891:
  E. Ortman overhauling house he recently purchased and besides other improvements is to put up a new store, 20 x 40 feet.

24 Apr 1891:
  William Dauffenbach sold farm to M.F. Berg—120 acres for $4650.

1 May 1891:
  Work on the new Ortman building to commence next week.  J.J. Solon’s new house received its first coat of paint.

8 May 1891:
  House of G. Schenk just to west of village burned last Saturday due to stovepipe.  No insurance.

15 May 1891:
  Carpenters at work on frame of Ortman building.  New and substantial bridge being put in this week this side of G.W. Runkel’s place.

19 June 1891:
 Henry Kohn putting up new barn.  Frame was raised on Saturday.

26 June 1891:
  E. Ortman’s new saloon is finished.

3 July 1891:
 N. Ortman sold 20 acre island in Mud Lake to C. Hoppe for $100.

10 July 1891:
  Foundation for the new general store is being laid and the carpenters will soon begin work.  L. Marugg and William Dauffenbach at the head of the enterprise.  Fred Dauffenbach’s furniture store moved a few feet south to make room for the new store.  Stone foundation to be put under the furniture store.

17 July 1891:
 The new Anhauser building is now offered for sale.  William Dauffenbach has sold his meat market and building to Philip and August Bickel for $1000.

24 July 1891:
  A fresh coat of paint has improved the interior of F. Heinig’s blacksmith shop.  Philip Runkel is putting a new engine (10 hp) and boiler (12 hp) in his elevator.

7 Aug 1891:
  William Dauffenbach has bought the Benson place 1 mile north of the villge for $950.

14 Aug 1891:
  P.W. Kohn has purchased the A.D. Coapman house and lot for $1000.  Dauffenbach and Marugg’s new store building soon ready for painting.  William Reinhard has commenced work at remodeling his house.  Will raise the roof and otherwise improve the house.

21 Aug 1891:
  Carpenters have completed work on Dauffenbach and Marugg’s new store.

11 Sept 1891:
  William Reinhard’s house is receiving a new coat of paint.  New street lamp placed in front of the Dauffenbach and Marugg store.

18 Sept 1891:
 William Dauffenbach jr. and family now occupying the pleasant rooms over the new store.  H.A. Berschneider is making preparation to put up a new residence.  The frame is up and building is enclosed.

16 Oct 1891:
  Fire broke out in C.A. Buss blacksmith shop last Friday evening but was stopped before it got a good headway.  P.J. Conery has moved his barbershop into the Keaveny building.  We understand that the building used as a barbershop is to be turned into a boot and shoe store.

23 Oct 1891:
  Otto Klug sold 97 acres in the Town of Portland to Fred Yerges for $5600.  Peter Reinhard has connected the room formerly used as a barbershop to his store by putting an archway through the wall.  He will use it as a salesroom for boots and shoes.

30 Oct 1891:
  New sidewalk installed from the depot to Moore’s store.  R. Moore has placed a new platform in front of his building.  J.C. Miller purchased 60 acres of Thomas Newman farm east of the railroad for $3300.  Remainder of the farm was sold to G.M. Kohn at $63 per acre.

6 Nov 1891:
 20 rods of 4 foot sidewalk being laid to the schoolhouse.  New crosswalks from P. Reinhard’s store to Philip Runkel’s.

13 Nov 1891:
 Otto Klug is drilling for an artesian well.

20 Nov 1891:
  Christ Knarr sold his 120 acre farm in the Town of Portland to Michael and Leonhard Benninger at $85 per acre.  G.W. Runkel has sold his 70 acre farm east of the village to C.W. Knarr for $5500.

4 Dec 1891:
  F.H. Dauffenbach has enlarged his furniture store by building on a 2 story addition.

11 Dec 1891:
 Carl Hoehne bought the Mrs. Maloney place of about 30 acres one mile west of the village for $950.  Christ Knarr has sold 120 acres in the Town of Portland to Michael Benninger for $10,225.  D. Wright has sold the hotel to C.W. Etscheid for $2000.
