BUILDING HISTORY--1892 1 Jan 1892: Robert Moore has built an addition to his warehouse. 8 Jan 1892: F. Hughes purchased 40 acres of the Michael Gallitz estate. The remaining 40 acres was sold to Anton Gallitz. 29 Jan 1892: George Wekerling sold farm to B. Hauser for $13,800. E.A. Colton of Cottage Grove Farm, Lowell is hauling lumber for a new granary. Round in shape, 22' diameter, 16' high, oak frame. Lapp and Ostricke of Lowell are the carpenters. Walters and Krueger are the masons. 5 Feb 1892: John Goebel has removed the remainder of the old brewery up to his residence. Cold Spring Cheese Factory was organized and Eli Kuehl is to put it up. 15 Feb 1892: Mr. Christian Kohn sr. has been hauling sand lately. He expects to renovate his house sometime in the future. 1 Apr 1892: S. Woodward is making preparation to build an addition to his house, also to remodel and make other improvements around it. 22 Apr 1892: S. Woodward nearly completed the addition to his house. 29 May 1892: New barn at the Commercial Hotel. Charles Ruedig has his saloon interior painted, papered and overhauled. 24 June 1892: S. Soldner is building an 18x54' addition to his house. Jos. Kelly and family are moving into the C. Dauffenbach house. 1 July 1892: Chas. Ruedig and John Polifka are painting M. Bickel's house. Kurtz and Raabe are putting the foundation under the Portland Butter and Cheese Factory. 29 July 1892: Chas. Ruedig and John Polifka have painted Fr. Yerges' buildings in north Portland. 19 Aug 1892: Fire destroyed Frank Boldt's barn last Saturday morning. Valued at $1000. Also lost hay and a horse. 2 Sept 1892: Otto Dauffenbach has purchased the C. Dauffenbach house and lot for $800. 9 Sept 1892: Frank Heinig has sold his dwelling to Fred Kohn for $650. C. Knarr has sold his dwelling to F. Heinig for $1000. August Rauschenberger bought the Louis Miller house and lot for $200. 16 Sept 1892: Dr. Kuentzel purchased the A. Loesch house and lot on S. Main St. for $800. 30 Sept 1892: Fire destroyed George Rauschenberger's barn on Thursday afternoon. Valued at $200. Filled with hay, the cause is unknown. 7 Oct 1892: J.J. Solon has raised and put a new foundation under the house on the lot vacated by Fred Kohn. Will overhaul and repair the house which will be occupied by Jos. Kelly. 14 Oct 1892: Dr. Kuentzel has put up a neat little barn on his newly purchased lot. 21 Oct 1892: William Etscheid has sold his house and lot to J.W. Etscheid for $860. Price was for residence lot only and doesn't include the shop or its lot. P.J. Conery is putting up a new barbershop on his lot next to the railroad. 9 Dec 1892: William Rauschenberger has moved his shop from the north end of town to the rear of F. Heinig's shop on S. Main. 23 Dec 1892: William Baker has sold his residence in the south part of the village to Jas. Tennien. |
