BUILDING HISTORY--1900

8 Feb 1900:  Mike Benninger is hauling sand for a new basement for his barn.

15 Feb 1900:  John Bickel spends his idle moments hauling stone for his new house.

17 May 1900:  Daniel O'Rourke has purchased of George Rounds, Lot 3, Block 7 for $100.  Loesch & Roth are at work on the new barn and residence for John Bickel.

31 May 1900:  Lightning struck and slightly damaged the barn of Anton Gallitz last Wednesday evening.

12 July 1900:  The barn on the G. M. Kohn farm was hit by lightning and entirely destroyed last Friday evening.  Valued at $200.  Insured by Elba Mutual Insurance Co.

29 July 1900:  Last Saturday evening lightning destroyed the barn of Charles Roth.  Also destroyed were a tool shed and granary.  A separate shed was severely burned.  The buildings were insured with Elba Mutual Insurance Co. but for not more than 2/3 of the loss.  Hay was also lost but the horses were saved.

13 Sept 1900:  Ed Fischer, the jewelry man, is erecting a building between Rob Moore and J.J. Solon's place of business.  Chas. Bruecher is building a barn for John Goebel in the Town of Portland.

25 Oct 1900:  Chas. Roth has raised the frame for a new barn last Friday.  A feature of this barn is its support of the floor by tussels instead of posts from the basement.
