CATTLE

The following information relates to cattle herd size in the Reeseville
community according to the 1860 agricultural census schedules for the Towns of
Lowell, Portland and Elba and the Village of Reeseville.
NOTE: For each household the number of milch cows and other cattle were
totaled to reach "total number" of cattle per household.
There were 783 cattle in a total of 113 households for the Reeseville
community. This meant that the median size of a household's herd was 6.9
cattle in 1860.
The households with the largest cattle herds in 1860 were:
Households with 9 "total" cattle: Adam Reese, Jacob Stam, W.F. Bond,
George Soldner, Michael Wekerling, Philip Breucher and John Vokes.
Households with 10 "total" cattle: William Bonum, Herman Brandes, Daniel
Breucher, M. Straus, Leonhard Benninger, George Adams, and W.H. Lawrence.
Households with 11 "total" cattle: Pat O'Gara, C. Paddleford, James Knapp,
B.F. Leland, Martin Nagler, John Schoen, G.M. Knarr, and Betsy Fischer
Households with 12 "total" cattle: Fred Sanders, A.B. Bevier, E. Wilcox,
and Christian Steinacker.
Households with 13 "total" cattle: Peter Reinhard sr., Leonhard Neuberger
and John Michael Kohn.
Households with 14 "total" cattle: Thomas Newman, J.K. Moore, and Noah
Bump.
