EMIGRANT SHIPS

The following are known emigrant ships upon which German settlers to the Reeseville community traveled.  Arranged by date of emigration.

 

Ship, Zurich, arrived 30 October 1847 in New York.  Port of embarkation was Le Havre, France.  Captain was William C. Thompson.

Passengers included:

A.  Peter Reinhard, his wife and 5 children
B.  Johann Ruedig, his wife and 3 children
C.  Jacob Runkel and his family of 6
D.  William Lahm and his wife, Anna
E.  Johann Seuser

NOTE:  Johann Seuser was the brother of Mrs. Peter Reinhard.  Anna Lahm was the sister of Jacob Runkel.

Ship, Vorwarts, arrived 30 Jun 18__ in New York.  Port of embarkation was Bremen.  Passengers included:

A.  Melchior Bickel, aged 28, farmer
B.  Mathaus Bickel, aged 27, farmer
C.  George Wagenknecht, aged 27, farmer

Ship, Adolphine, arrived 17 June 1853 in New York.  Port of embarkation was Bremen.  Captain was C. F. Schaue.

A.  Gottfried Winter, aged 29, a farmer from Bavaria.  He traveled in the steerage section.

Ship, Ravenswood, arrived 25 Nov 1854 in New York.  Port of embarkation was Le Havre. 

A.  Christian Hamm family from Prussia.  Included within the family were Christian (aged 48 with farmer as occupation); Gertrude (aged 45); Catherine (aged 12); Henriette (aged 9); John (aged 5); and Elizabeth (aged 1).

Bark, Anna Delius, arrived 13 May 1854 in New Orleans.  Port of embarkation was Bremen.  Master of the ship was William Hattendorf.

A.  Carl Sonneman, aged 19, from Hannover.  Occupation listed was "schlosser"

B.  Heinrich Jurgens (Yerges) family from Hannover.  Included within the family were Heinrich (aged 29, occupation listed as "holzarbeiter"); Wilhelmine (aged 27); Ludwig (aged 8); Louise (aged 3) and Willhelm (aged 1).

NOTE:  Carl Sonneman was the brother of Wilhelmine Yerges.

Ship, Walhame, left Antwerp in 1855 and landed in New York.

A.  Johann Philip Etscheid and wife, A. Catherine Etscheid (from the village of Ehlscheid)
B.  Johann Wilhelm Kleinmann and wife, A. Catherine Kleinmann (from the village of Hardert)
C.  Engel Ruedig, A. Sophia Ruedig, Philipp Ruedig and A. Christ. Ruedig (from the village of Hardert)
D.  Johann George Runkel and Catherine Louise Runkel (from the village of Rengsdorf)
E.  Johann Philip Runkel and A.M. Runkel (from the village of Ehlschied)
F.  Johann Wilhelm Schaefer and A. Sophia Schaefer (from the village of Hardert)

NOTE:  These villages were located next to each other in Rhenish Prussia.

Bark, Johannes, arrived 17 July 1855 in Quebec City, Canada.  Departed from Hamburg on 1 June 1855.

A.  Johann Wolfgram family from Prussia.  Included were Johann (aged 42), Anna (aged 37), Wilhelm (aged 14), Wilhelmine (aged 13), Emilie (aged 11), Magdalena (aged 9), Bertha (aged 7), Hulda (aged 4) and Sophia (aged 1 1/2).

Ship, May Queen, to Quebec.  Port of embarkation was Hamburg on 1 June 1856.

A.  William Klug (his original passenger ticket has survived.  It indicates the payment of passage for 6 adults.  The ship was part of Robert M. Sloman's shipping line.)

Ship, Rudolph, arrived 23 June 1856 in New York.  Port of embarkation was Marseilles.  Captain was K. J. Dieckman.  Traveling in the cabin section were:

A.  John Gustav Lau family from Prussia.  Included within the family were John (aged 45 with hunter as occupation); Ernestine (aged 38 with no occupation listed); August (aged 17 with no occupation listed); Herman (aged 14 with no occupation listed); Julies (aged 11); Henry (aged 7); Fred (aged 5); Bertha (aged 3) and Robert (aged 9 months).
