22 Karat Gold (Quartet Champions of Region 22)
In the year 2000, 22 Karat Gold was formed. This group is made up of past and present Region 22 quartet champions. 22 Karat Gold was formed for the purpose of getting together and renewing old friendships, supporting and coaching the existing quartets in Region 22 to continually grow and improve, and performing for the general membership in Region 22. Since then, this group has rapidly become an important part of Region 22. Each year they have a performance following the regional quartet competition, and they host a quartet hospitality room. In addition, they have held fundraisers for quartets going to International, organized and presented quartet-focused music schools, and have provided continued support to the region's quartets through hostessing quartets at regional competition, providing coaching, and more.
22 Carrot Chorus (Novelty Quartet Champions of Region 22) At the Region 22 Winter School, there is a wonderful tradition: the Novelty Quartet contest. On Saturday evening, after the school's "serious" Sweet Adeline learning, singing, and fun, members from all over the region who have formed just-for-fun quartets perform songs to entertain each other in the spirit of laughter, friendship, and fun, in hopes of earning the coveted Novelty Quartet Trophy. (How many in your quartet? The answer is not always four!) Novelty Quartets typically use these crafty techniques: parodies of original lyrics, unique choreography, abundant use of props, and all and all out bribery. Under a very loose set of judging criteria, the group who sings the best and keeps everyone laughing is deemed the winner. The winning group enjoys the spotlight of the moment, the pride of winning the trophy, and accepts the responsibility of being the judges for the following year. In 2009, a new tradition was established: "The 22 Carrot Chorus." All past and present Region 22 Novelty Quartet winners were invited to come up to the front of the room and sing together for the audience. All members received a 22 Carrot "medal" to identify them as members of this elite group. What a fine way to end a crazy evening. This proves once again that Sweet Adelines sure know how to have fun!
