Metal Detecting Gold Prospecting Family History / Genealogy

Metal detecting is a great hobby and can be rewarding at times. Finding class rings and returning them to the owners always makes me feel good. Finding a lost wedding ring or engagement ring or even a set of keys for a thankful person can be more rewarding then getting a cash reward.
Some times when I find an item that is very old it makes me think of the person that may have lost it and what they were doing when they dropped it.

I am a member of Midstate Metal Detector Club. Being a member of a metal detecting club can be rewarding in its self because you can go to outings and club meeting and talk to the experts. Also you will learn from them how to select and were to purchase the best metal detector at a price you can afford. A lot of club members are willing to give out there secrets on were to look for old coins in all kinds of unusual places like old homesteads, parks, school play grounds and ball fields. Also places to do research on finding old ghost towns and old lost communities.
Joining a metal detecting club will also help you with the laws of your state and the metal detecting code of ethics, which is very important for the survival of the metal detecting hobby.

Prospecting for that bright yellow metal gold in the ground is a very exciting hobby for me and very addicting. Not much gold in Wisconsin, but it can be found in small mini flakes in some of the streams in the area. I have prospected for gold in other states like South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Arizona, and Alaska.

Went to Chicken, Alaska in July 2007 for one week with a metal detecting buddy (Larry), it was our first time using suction dredging equipment, but had a great time and came back with gold in our pockets. Check out my pictures just click on the buttons above.

Went to Phoenix, Arizona in April of 2009 for a few weeks for my daughter and her new husbands wedding. Had a great time at there wedding and the whole time we were out there.
Went up to Prescott and did some gold panning in the Lynx Creek area. One day went to Horsetheft Canyon Recreational Area with two guys I met in Alaska (Ed and Marion).
I gave them a call when I got Phoenix and they invited me to a day on their claim for some suction dredging, had a awesome time and got some Arizona gold (thanks guys).
The next day went back to Horsetheft Canyon and did some metal detecting in an area were a pipeline was put in and found a small nugget and a lot of bullets and junk. All in all had a memorial experience and looking forward to going back again.

I also belong to prospecting club for the same reason that I belong to a metal detecting club, and I'm a member of GPAA (Gold Prospectors of America Association)
