You
will receive dried but living sourdough starter grown
with wild yeast from organic grapes of the central coast
of California. Once reactivated, this starter will raise
bread like you won't believe!
No
commercial yeast is needed,
even when baking with whole grains.
The
secret to raising bread with sourdough is a freshly
fed starter. Before baking, feed your starter and let
it ferment 4-12 hours. Then it will be ready to
go! My starter has a delightful flavor ranging from
delightfully sutble to “knock your socks off” sour.
The longer you let your dough ferment, the more sour
your bread will taste. I've captured a unique combination
of strains of California Central Coast yeast and lactobacillus
that provide excellent rising and flavor qualities.
You will never need to purchase sourdough again. In
fact, you will be able to provide your friends and family
with sourdough.
The
well-established starter will give excellent baking
results when fed every week or two. All it needs is
pure water and flour. However, it can be frozen for
extended periods, so you don't need to hire a sourdough
babysitter when you go on vacation. The starter has
been maintained with organic whole wheat flour freshly
ground from hard white wheat berries and filtered water.
You
may bake with white all-purpose flour, white bread flour,
rye flour or whole wheat to bake beautiful sourdough
loaves just like they do in San Francisco.
In
addition to the dried starter, you will receive 12 pages
of my fantastic recipes for artisan breads, waffles
and pancakes, flatbreads, biscuits, and quick breads
along with tips for baking perfect sourdough products.

I prefer whole grain breads, but you will also have
fantastic results with white flour. I use whole freshly
ground flour from white wheat berries in my baking.
King Arthur brand flour makes a whole white wheat flour
that will serve you just as well.
You
may bake round artisan loaves, long baguettes,
or in regular bread pans. Sourdough may also be added
to fresh homemade pasta for a wonderful flavor.
I
keep my starter fresh by baking at least weekly. You
may not want to bake bread every week, but my waffle
recipe is a fast and easy way to use the starter. My
grandson, Brad, has declared my waffles to be "the best
in the world"! The light crisp waffles (made with whole
wheat flour) are perfect right from the waffle iron--without
butter or syrup! Even if you never bake bread, the waffles
are worth getting this starter.
