Helping customers with their Windows-based computer and software

Since 1994, I have been doing much work on computers, teaching people how to best utilize the software they have.  I have built many computers from component parts and have replaced many damaged components after troubleshooting.  In the mid 90's, I began working on computer hardware and software, writing databases in Microsoft Access for retail business applications along with creating numerous tables, forms, etc. for retail business book-keeping, for customer contacts and for inter-office documents and inventory.

The work I was doing was used to keep track of orders & ordering utilizing Microsoft Office Professional's Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Picture Manager and other Microsoft software (getting the most potential from these programs). I also created all databases, tables, forms, merge documents for not only various retail companies but also for persons engaged in church-related work and professional counseling type work as well as all manner of database tables, forms, merge documents, business cards, brochures and PowerPoint presentations for both my building inspection business and for certain physicians who needed presentations that could be run from laptop computers projected onto large screens.

Along with my experience in repairing computers naturally came much work in showing individuals and business owners how to maintain full and incremental backups on various medium (beginning with 1.44 MB 3.5" diskettes then Iomega magnetic tape drives in 1994) to prevent data from being lost, destroyed, stolen, etc. These backup jobs were not only stored on-site (in fireproof safes) but copies of total backup operations were also stored off-site in cases where any catastrophic event may lead to total corruption and loss of data in sensitive environments where any such data and software loss would shut down the business and must never occur.

The off-site backups contain not only data but also various necessary software installation copies which would need to be installed onto a new machine so a new computer could essentially be restored from the stored data in order to re-create the existing system in the event that the existing system is lost, stolen or has been destroyed.  I prefer to do this over utilizing Windows Restore Points, as any corrupt files will not be restored, but rather the entire system and all necessary software will be re-installed.

Most times, when a PC is sluggish or does not seem to be running properly, there are certain things that can be done within certain operating systems and also technical things that can sometimes be physically done (inside the computer case) to speed things up.  Many times this performance improvement costs very little money (as compared to buying a new computer).  New computers are not always the answer to a slow computer, especially when one must take an entire day, at minimum, to remove junk software many manufacturers install to make the new machine appear to have all kinds of software, when, in reality, much of this "bloat-ware" is limited to a trial period which, at the end of this period, one may purchase the real thing, if they happen to like it, however, trying to uninstall much of this free software leaves remnants and traces of the software in the Windows Registry and many times files remain visible in C:\Program Files.

I will come to your house and will verify that your computer is running properly and will suggest any hardware updates I feel are necessary to bring the computer up to a speed where the user doesn't need to be waiting for minutes, on end, just for a simple software program to open!  If your computer moves along fast enough that you hardly ever need to wait for something to open, close, etc., then your machine really doesn't need speeding up, unless, of course, one is doing much multimedia editing or a lot of "gaming"─things that use much processor resources and much RAM memory.

I will also tutor you on how to most-efficiently operate your software and hardware. If there is something I do not know or something I am unfamiliar with, I will research it and get back to you or will teach you how to research it on your own computer using the internet as the resource. I encourage people to make lists of questions to ask me so, when I show up, we are not wondering what it is we will be doing with the computer!

I work only on Windows-based computers.
