The Subscription Garden

Our Marketing Plan

We sell our organic vegetables and fruits according to a new marketing model called Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA. In the CSA model, you buy an annual share of our production, rather than make retail purchases for single items. Paying in advance gives us our budget and our production goals for the coming season. It also guarantees that all our produce is sold. In return, we provide you with a continuous supply of seasonal vegetables and fruits, harvested at their peak of ripeness, and grown in a manner respectful of both the consumer and the earth.

How Does the Subscription Garden Work?

Shares are sold over the winter. In May, we host a potluck for subscribers to meet each other and tour the farm. Beginning in June, the subscribers take turns coming out to the farm on Saturdays from 9AM to 1PM. They help harvest the produce, divide up the shares, and help us with simple farm chores. This is an opportunity for subscribers to learn some of the craft involved in running the farm. Since we do not deliver, we try to link up subscribers who live near each other to bring the shares back for each other. 3RF is small and personable. We will have only eight shares this year.

Subscribers come about once a month to help with the garden and collect their shares.

What Will I Get in My Share?

3RF encourages the tradition of eating with the seasons. In the spring we have radishes. peas, lettuce, cabbage, sorrel, rhubarb, strawberries and juneberries. The heat of summer brings us several kinds of tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, green beans, okra, squash, garlic, sweet corn, blackberries, raspberries and plums. Moving into fall, we have broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, turnips, kale, chard, leeks, potatoes, beets, more lettuce and winter squash. Herbs like dill, coriander, basil, chives, parsley and peppermint are available throughout the year. Each share receives a quart of honey in September.
When an item is available and how much is in a share depends on the growing conditions in the field at the time. On average, you can expect 250lbs. of produce over a season of 18 weeks, from mid-June to late October.

Subscribers often bring their families and enjoy a day on the farm.
