As a child we often camped...I grew up in Europe and in
the States, so I learned that camping in either one is
about the same.....we would attend the races at
Hockenheim Germany and camp, go sightseeing through the
south of France camping and camped some here in the
Sates at Clark's Hill Reservior in South Carolina and in
Oklahoma....
I hadn't camped in many years.
My new wife's family has a farm in East Texas and wanted
us to come out and spend time there.
We loaded up the car with sleeping bags and other
necessary items..along with my seven year old daughter
from a previous marriage and went for a weekend of
bonding.
We got to the farm and with the large number of family
members present it became apparent that we weren't going
to have a place to sleep if we didnt' go buy a tent.
So we head out for town and buy one MASSIVE tent at the
Walmart.
Once we got back, we set the tent up and almost
immediately I see a change in my daughter....she gets
excited and sees we are going to be there for the
weekend and we are gonna have fun....
Long story short.....we fish at the family's
pond...she "skunks" me 2 fish to none as she doesn't
realize dad is busy keeping her gear straight so she can
fish......we ate smores by a fire and had a hearty
breakfast fixed by her new "Grammy"......
We had that bonding......the time we needed to merge
two families and become one.....afterward my daughter
climbed up in my lap and said I was the best dad in the
whole world.......so now I learn that yes...life can
come full circle.....and yes, maybe the role we play in
life is different, the game may have changed just a
tad........but we are still able to enjoy the simple
things in life.
