Most Pear wood comes from Europe and is steamed to make the color more uniform. It is commonly available as veneer and used in fine marketry work where its light pinkish tones make it a natural choice for depicting skin. It is also popular as a veneer purely on its merits of color and even figure. I have a very small supply of Pear left and nothing longer than 18". The wood I have came from an orchard that was being removed in San Jose. It has excellent pale pink color and a quilted figure.
