Rochester Woodcarvers
October-November 2006 Newsletter
Meetings: 9am - 11am on the 3rd Saturday of each month (Sept - April)
May - the meeting is a picnic - look for details as they become available
Redeemer Lutheran Church, 9th Street and 7th Avenue SE, Rochester, MN December 16th is our Christmas Meeting. True to our past and traditions, we invite our spouses and bring potluck to share, along with a (wrapped) gift to exchange. This gift should be an item related in some way to wood and carving, and will be exchanged for another gift. If you bring a gift, you can take home a gift. Easy as that! Nice gifts, something you think you won't use or that you use rarely, but think someone else might really use and enjoy. We all have some of those around. No "white elephants," no beat-up coffee cups or refrigerator bowls out of the storage shed!
There will not be a speaker or special program, but we will have the "Show & Tell", the library, and we can spend more time gathered around the pot luck, visiting, eating & the enjoying the gift exchange.
Our President Notes:
Thanks for a great turnout of members this fall at our club meetings. A record number of ornaments for the RWC tree were made this year for the Festival of Trees. A big applause should be given to Dennis Tooley and his committee, plus a pat on the back to all of you who made ornaments. Be sure to check out the ornament photos taken by Tom Severson. They're displayed on the RWC website at http://webpages.charter.net/rochcarve/. Click on photos.
Most of us are glad those political TV ads are finished for a while! Something you need to start thinking about in the upcoming months is replacing some club positions for the fall of 2007. The President, Treasurer and some Board positions will be available for new people to fill. It is good for any organization for new people to be involved and provide some fresh ideas. Yes, even lutefisk tastes bad if cooked too long or gets cold sitting on the serving plate. Many political candidates this fall kept preaching about change; so that also applies to your woodcarvers club. Take it from me; the campaign costs for becoming part of your RWC woodcarver's board and club officers' positions are extremely low! Please consider taking part in some way, either by becoming a board member, club officer, putting on a club program or finding a program, helping at the carving show, etc. to make it a better organization for all of us.
If you know anyone that might have an interest in woodcarving, be sure to invite them to one of our upcoming meetings. Community education carving classes will be held this winter, so I encourage you to enroll or invite new people to take a carving class.
I look forward to seeing you at the December meeting with the great potluck once again. Be sure to bring a wood or carving related item for the gift exchange and spouses are encouraged to attend.
Wayne Hendrickson, President
