The Maya Ruins of Honduras

As mentioned earlier, Robin Gonzalez (M.W.R. director at Soto Cato) set up a trip for us to the Maya Ruins. On the way there, we needed a rest stop and since there was not a Mc Donalds nearby....

We were booked in an excellent hotel "Hacienta de Jerel" near Santa Rita close to the border with Guatemala. This hotel has connections with MWR providing rooms at about $25. Per night. Rooms had air conditioning, satellite TV, hot water and were very comfortable.

The Hacienta also had an excellent outdoor dining facility with very inexpensive food costs.

The next day a guide took our party of 6 (included our Honduran driver) through the ruins. There is still much excavation going on there, but an excellent tour. The tour took about 4 hours.

We returned to Soto Cato the next day. On the way, I asked our driver to stop so I could get a picture of this road sign - cattle crossings signs I had seen, but never a bull crossing sign! Also in this area the cattle are driven down the highways. Traffic stops while the cowboys herd the animals by! Also notice the lack of traffic. Common throughout Honduras. On weekends, you do see some civilian vehicles (mostly 4 door Toyota pickups), but still very little.
