Best way to get there is by flying out of Dover AFB, Dover, Delaware. When I flew with my now x-wife, we always drove to Dover and left from there. Even though Charleston AFB, South Carolina is closer, it is dodgey in getting a flight from there to Europe. Dover AFB is on the WEB with an excellent page. One can even sign up via the NET for Space A Travel. Sign up is good for 60 days. To sign up & obtain added info go to: Dover AFB
Since Rhein Main is closing, you best bet into Germany is to Ramstein; however, there are still some flights terminating at Rhein Main. There is a duty bus that runs on a schedule between Ramstein and Rhein Main. Also, each weekday there are buses that depart from Rhein Main for points throughout Germany (64th Replacement Detachment) that depart each day at 1300 hours; however, with the draw down of troops from Europe, their destinations are now more limited. Retirees are permitted on the buses, however, on a Space A basis. The times that I have used these buses, there was no problem in getting a seat.
Remember, tho, that Rhein Main is closing. There is no base exchange anymore, no billeting available, and few facilities still open.
