Lake Yojoa

If you love to fish and are in Honduras, Ask Robin at the MWR in Soto Cato if she can arrange a trip to Lake Yojoa. The hotel Aqua Azur has facilities similar to those of Hacienda de Jerel at Copan, and the cost is about the same. Black Bass abound! MWR also maintains several motor boats in the lake capable of pulling skiers where GI's can water ski. There is a fish hatchery there and our Honduran driver took me out to see. The hatchery is supported by 55-gallon drums and encompasses as area of about 75 meters by 75 meters. some 50 meters out in the lake. While viewing the different sizes and breeds (separated by netting), I noticed the driver starting to peel off his clothes! What's going on? Next thing I see he is diving into the lake! Hey I can do that - and so I did! Hadn't been skinny dipping since I was 16! Great! Here it was the middle of December and the water temperature I would guess at around 75 F!

The complex has a great outdoor dining facility, good food, excellent prices. It seems every public facility also has at least one parrot..
