Vicenza & Verona

Vicenza  Verona

About half way between Milano and Venicia are the "twin cities" of Verona and Vicenza. Verona is the headquarters for SETAF (Southern European Task Force) with Vicenza the Host City for the field forces for SETAF. Near Verona is Lake Garda, a recreation area for American forces where Space A'ers can find quarters, and between Verona and Vicenza there are twin castles, one turned into a restaurant

and tourist attraction. These castles were an inspiration for Shakespeare' Romeo and Juliet.

A great for lunch and playing tourist. Venice is about 18 miles from Vicenza so if you didn't visit Venice while in Aviano now is the time to do it. Drive your car to a parking garage outside Venice and take the water bus into St. Marco Square or where ever.

TIP: Like France, the vehicle on your right has the right-of-way plus there is every type of vehicle imaginable on the Italian roads frombikelady.gif (7693 bytes) bicycles, bicycles, bicycles, to all styles and sizes of motorcycles/scooters to Fiats, Fiats, Fiats and Ferraris so take extra caution!

Feel froggy? I use to go to Garmisch for a weekend and sought out alternate routes there. Go from Vicenza to Rovereto  to Trento to  Bolzano and on to Innsbruck. This route is not for the weak of heart! Although the road is all paved, much of it on the mountain is single lane. If you are going up, and meet a vehicle you must back down to one of the pull-offs to allow the downward vehicle to pass. Upon topping the mountain at Rovereto look to your left. Across a deep ravine built into the sheer side of the mountain is a "city". I didn't investigate, but suspect it some kind of Monk facility. Fascinating and beautiful!
