EXPECTATIONS OF FDLTCC STUDENTS
DEPENDABILITY: Please be prompt and dependable for your scheduled
volunteer times. This IS a commitment, both to the staff you are assisting and
the individuals you are working with. There may be times you are ill or have a
scheduling conflict, please let the staff know as far in advance as possible.
Remember, they are expecting you!
DISCIPLINE: Students rarely have behavior problems while working with
volunteers. However, if an incident occurs, it is your responsibility to make
the staff aware. You should not be expected to discipline students.
CONFIDENTIALITY: In working with younger students, information of a
confidential nature may be shared with you. Problems, relationships, confidences
shared, should never be discussed with anyone who does not have a professional
right or need to know. FDLTCC students are expected to adhere to a professional
code of ethics to keep all matters confidential.
MANDATORY REPORTING: Due to the close nature of the college
student/younger student relationship, confidential information may be shared. If
a child or youth you are working with discloses to you information that causes
you to suspect physical/sexual abuse or a threat of imminent harm, please report
it to your on site supervisor.
CULTURAL DIVERSITY: Be accepting of the individuals you work with as they
are. Be sensitive to differences in background, culture, religion, values,
etc...
DRESS AND BEHAVIOR: Dress appropriately. Casual attire is fine but should be
neat and clean. Bear in mind that you are in a position to set an example. Your
speech and behavior should serve as good models for them to follow.
