A visual and musical achievement from 1988 Akira is an amazing story of ultimate power and friendship. I will not pretend to understand the majority of the story in this movie especially the ending, however this movie is extremely interesting and fun to watch. It follows the story of Kaneda, Testsuo, and their friends as well as three governemnt test subjects. The story takes place after World War III in Neo-Tokyo. Most of the old city that was destroyed at the start of the war is abandoned and the rest of Neo-Tokyo is a large scale version of old-Tokyo. However gangs and crime are rampant and Neo-Tokyo is being controlled by corrupt governemnt. Many of the citizens of Neo-Tokyo are revolting against the government and some are prophesising about the return of Akira an all powerful being that will bring destruction to the world. Kaneda and Testsuo are long-time friends and now involved in a bike gang. After Tetsuo gets into a mysterious accident he is taken away in army helicopters and goes through a series of tests. What is Akira and what does it have to do with Tetsuo? How does this story end? This movie is well worth watching and very interesting. It is a little violent in parts and the swearing is along the lines of the Matrix, but still a very interesting movie.
