Representative Peter King (R-NY) has introduced H.RES.123 to establish in the House of Representatives a Select Committee on POW and MIA Affairs.

According to the legislation: "The select committee shall conduct a full investigation of all unresolved matters relating to any United States personnel unaccounted for from the Vietnam era, the Korean conflict, or World War II, or Gulf War, including MIA's and POW's."

We need everyone calling, writing and/or faxing their Congressional Representatives asking that they co-sponsor H.RES.123. There are 435 Congressional Representatives, we need 218 co-sponsors to pass this legislation.

There are those within Dept of Defense agencies dealing with the POW/MIA issue who will no doubt mount a campaign against H.RES.123, just as they opposed the formation of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs. This is our chance to get some answers that the Senate Select Committee didn't back in '91-'92, since the House doesn't have any Johns McCains or John Kerrys to derail the investigation.

Below is a sample letter, copy and paste it in your word processor and edit it to suit yourself (be sure to insert your representatives name). Mail it, fax it, or email it to your representative or pick up the phone and give your representative a call and ask him to co-sponsor this bill. Or better yet, mail it and fax it and email it and call.

Don't know who your representative is or his address? Below you will find a "WRITE YOUR CONGRESS" box, just insert your zip code. (Reminder: This is a House bill, so there is no need to contact the Senators about it.)

WE NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET TO MAKE THIS COMMITTEE HAPPEN!

United States House of Representatives

Dear Representative [Insert Name],

Representative Peter King (R-NY) has introduced H.RES.123 to establish in the House of Representatives a Select Committee on POW and MIA (Prisoner of War/Missing In Action) Affairs.

According to the legislation: "The select committee shall conduct a full investigation of all unresolved matters relating to any United States personnel unaccounted for from the Vietnam era, the Korean conflict, World War II and the Gulf War, including MIA's and POW's."

To get this committee established, I need your help. As one of your constituents, I ask that you sign on as a co-sponsor of H.RES.123 as soon as possible. This is very important to me. The United States Government has yet to account for all of our missing servicemen and some civilians lost during war time. A great many questions remain unanswered.

In order to have our questions answered, a complete, balanced and impartial investigation needs to be conducted. The Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs concluded that a small number of POWs were left behind at the end of the War in Southeast Asia. What happened to that small number of men? The Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs never answered that question.

At its conclusion, the Committee recommended a number of leads requiring follow-up. No follow-up was ever done. Korean and Cold War losses were not given the proper attention during the Senate investigation. As you can see, the need for a new committee is definitely there.

I hope I can count on your help by co-sponsoring H.RES.123 today! I look forward to your reply.

Thank You,
