- Caves - Caves - Most of my caving experience was carried out in the Yorkshire Dales. During college years I spent numerous weekends in the Marton Arms, The Fountain Cafe and eventually down the caves with LPCC, UCLCC, and finally LOST. I now know where my grant money went !! It seemed a mystery at the time !! The pictures below are a brief glimpse at some of the more aesthetically pleasing caves we bottomed as a team. I give out my thanks to the cavers who sat in the dark and cold while I fettled photographic equipment. A few of those people are: Iain Holland, Eric Elliot, Neil McCallum, Degsy Freeman, Paul Cook, Arthur Vause, Martin Amies, Simon Cundy, and Steve Forshaw. All the pictures were taken with an abused Kodak compact and a slave flash. Monumental moments: The greatest feeling of satisfaction came from bottoming Langcliffe in 1993, unfortunately the second time we ventured to that same spot we became trapped by flood waters on the wrong side of the Nemesis Boulder Choke and had to sit it out in the dry sandy chambers !! Monumental disappointments: I never did get past the entrance pitch of Strans Gill Pot. The really sad part is that I had passed the 19cm constriction. You could say that after the tight bit I got rapidly hung up on something !! Why did I cave ? Because it's a good way to keep yourself out of the Marton Arms (and other similar establishments ! Let's not forget the Hill Inn). |
