Web "guru" Jakob Nielsen:
    "... mailing lists won't have much of a future. In the long term, we need to remove everything from e-mail that is not in the nature of personal correspondence." (Alertbox, August 8, 2000)
He's wrong.
E-mail newsletters, done well, drive news and information to colleagues, clients and customers who not only want that information, but look forward to receiving it.

Of course, it's the "done well" part that's tricky ...

American Airlines

Early in 2002, the Jetnet team launched a subscription-only e-mail newsletter designed to provide advance information about corporate events and upgrades to the extranet site. The call-it-what-it-is name of this publication is Jetnet Mail.

When the Teamsite User Group (see below) was absorbed into the AMR Publishing Board in October of 2001, the newsletter was re-purposed for an expanded audience of more than 300 editors and Webmasters systemwide. The original name, JetWired, was a play on the American Airlines daily internal news bulletin, Jetwire; again, after a reader contest, the publication was re-named @aa.

While overseeing content management implementation before release of the new employee portal, founded Teamsite Weekly for all editors and content owners participating in Phase I; publication was re-named TeamCast following a reader contest.

HeAAds Up! and HeAAds Update!
As managing editor for employee publications at American Airlines, was responsible for compiling and distributing daily morning e-mail newsletter to more than 7,000 managers systemwide. Founded its sister publication, HeAAds Update! during the TWA acquisition; this as-needed supplement turned into a key communications tool during the weeks following the tragedy of September 11.

WRP E-mail Newsletter
From 1998-2000, wrote and published a regular e-mail newsletter to accompany the companion Web site to James Lester's popular college text Writing Research Papers. Originated as a monthly; changed to quarterly after first year.
