Now Starring ... Web Reference
by Mick Doherty

[August 19] Today on Jetnet, a new touchpoint policies and procedures tool called Web Reference (WR) was released to all domestic employees.

"We're very excited about today's release," said WR project manager Linda Clark. "Web Reference is an important new centralized reference search tool, which can be used to view policy and procedure information, previously communicated only through SABRE star records." WR has been available in domestic Reservations offices since August 13.

The new reference search tool increases productivity.

John Boston, Manager of Res Policies and Procedures spoke with SRO represenatives and reported, "They really like the new search tool — and there are incredible productivity benefits from using Web Reference. While Res previously had a reference search tool, WR enables them to update one system, WR, and have the files published to the Web." These files are accessible only through Jetnet, and simultaneously synchronized back to SABRE, removing only images and other data SABRE can't display.

This synchronized publishing process ensures that SABRE-based users can continue to view information through star records. "Even though the Web version will look slightly different because there are no SABRE character or line limitations," says Clark, "the content will be identical."

And, adds Clark, "For those employees who do know SABRE as if it's second nature, well, this means all that star information is now available to them from home through Jetnet." Additional key points for new users of Web Reference:

  • When using WR, don't use the N* prefix — that's a SABRE command and is unnecessary. Just use the name of the star record.
  • Star records created through WR will display the pseudo city code RWA.
  • While WR is not yet available to Eagle or international employees, that access is coming soon.
Try Web Reference right now on Jetnet; it's available from the front page for a short time, and has a permanent home on the Policies & Procedures page. if you have additional questions, there is information waiting for you at Jetnet's online self-help desk.

Or, notes Clark with just the barest hint of irony, "For more information about the system please see N*WEBREF. And yes, that record is available directly from WR itself."
