Welcome to the weekly e-mail newsletter update for content owners involved in development of the AMR employee portal, Jetnet. If there are additional members of your team who should receive this newsletter, please let us know.

HELP! I NEED SOMEBODY!
HELP! NOT JUST ANYBODY ...

Enough Beatles' references -- you can get those Eight Days A Week, and it's so Yesterday. After all, Every Little Thing can make you feel like a real Nowhere Man. But ... We Can Work It Out if you do the following:

If you experience problems with Teamsite, please continue to let me know, or if I am not available, let Corey Frye (corey.frye@luminant.com) know ... Corey gets this newsletter, so he won't be surprised, and he's really not a bad sort.

BUT ... if you have problems with the portal ... can't get logged in ... are getting error messages ... problems of that nature ... please call the Jetnet Help Desk at 1-866-538-6384 or via the form available on the portal itself (click "Help" in the top right corner). This way we can start tracking not only the various types of problems as the replicate, but also how well our new Help Desk responds to calls. If you call or write me with these kinds of problems, I will refer you to the Help Desk.

Remember ... if your content is not appearing on Jetnet even though you swear you've pushed it through properly, that's a Teamsite issue (Corey or me), not a Jetnet Help Desk issue. Otherwise, just Let It Be.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR IMAGES & LINKS
We have not identified the specific pages yet, but apparently there are a number of places on the current portal which call images from a different site (such as AMRcorp.com). This works for now, but will be problematic when our SSL security is fully in place.

Please see if you have any instances of this occurring, import the image using Teamsite, and change the image reference in your HTML to point locally rather than externally.

As for links ... if you have a hyperlink on your page that leads anywhere outside the portal (including other AA-sponsored sites like AA.com and AMRcorp.com), please make sure it is opening up a new browser window.

These two problems MUST be fixed before we go live systemwide.

REMINDER ... EVERYONE GETS TO PLAY!
As requested in last week's edition, please make sure that every indivudal who is identified as a backup for any piece of content currently on Jetnet has posted that content to Staging at least once on their own.

When vacations or illnesses take our primary content owners away, it's important that we be ready to proceed without missing a step. I will be checking in with the Administrators of each branch on Friday 8/10 to make sure this has happened.

DON'T PANIC (MOSTLY HARMLESS)
Sometime during this month of August, two things are going to happen which will startle you if you aren't aware of them. Consider this your first warning; you will have ample additonal notice when we know what dates are involved.

*** Because the Teamsite servers are going to be reconfigured, all content owners will receive new userIDs and passwords. We will give these to you personally or via Boardmail rather than e-mailing them.

*** You will begin hearing portal team members talking about the fact that the "environment is frozen." This refers specifically to technical architecture, not content. You can and should continue publishing your material. The "freeze" does not affect content; it would, however, affect the need to create any new branches.

P.S. ... I will buy a beverage of choice in the CP5 cafeteria for the first reader of this newsletter to correctly identify the author of the pop culture work which inspired the headline for this item. Offer good for US residents only, void where prohibitied.

WHAT GOES DOWN ... WILL EVENTUALLY BE BACK UP
Thanks for your patience this week with the erratic availability of Jetnet to check your work as you've posted new material. We are working hard to improve performance, but sometimes when we discover something that needs to be done, it means taking the site down briefly. We will continue to let you know in advance (uh, when WE know in advance) if the site will be down.

Monday 8/6 from 8:00 AM until 12:00 noon, there is scheduled downtime for the Employee Directory only. This feature will be unavailable during that time.

JUST CHECKING ...
Everyone is filling out the "Comment" boxes that pop up when you are publishing your content, right? You should be seeing three of these appear through the normal publishing process.

Though we are working on formalized standards for what to put in these boxes, for now you should probably be sure to include your name and what you've done. Sample:

8/3 update to Breaking News.
Two internal stories, one external story and update to Index page.

You can copy and paste this text from one Comment form to the next so you only have to type it once.

THE CAVALRY IS COMING!
Well, in part, anyway. American has hired its first full-time Interwoven (Teamsite) developer to staff, Abhijeet Karmase. Scheduled to begin on Monday 8/13, Abhijeet has worked on numerous large projects, including the initial build of everyone's favorite Web site, Oprah.com.

True Story: I had relatives from NYC in town last week, and one night took them to Black-Eyed Pea for dinner (because I am a big spender). My aunt, who is actually quite well-traveled, asked "what's 'okra'?" My uncle, who really meant it, said "She's that talk-show host, right?"
OUT OF OFFICE REPLY
I will be out of the office for seven of the next nine business days. Next week on TWR 8/7-9, I will be in a training seminar at Flagship University. The following week, MTWR 8/13-16, I will be attending the Fall Management Conference.

I will have my cell phone with me at all times (see below for number) in case anything needs immediate attention. During that time, Erin Marshall will again be tending to the Breaking News gadget on the portal, while Stacy Quarles will be available to gather any general concerns you may have, which she will either pass along to me later or redistribute to another appropriate Portal Team member for review.

JUST FOR LAFFS
Since we're asking you to contact the Help Desk more often, Help Desk Humor is the theme of today's closer ...

Q: How many help desk workers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: We have an exact copy of the light bulb here and it seems to be working fine. Can you tell me what kind of system you have? OK. Just exactly how dark is it? OK. There could be four or five things wrong. Have you tried the light switch?

Actual exchange:
Help Desk: "In the bottom left hand side of your screen, do you see the 'OK' button displayed?"
Customer: "Wow. How can you see my screen from there?"

Did You Know?
Compaq is considering changing the command "Press Any Key" to "Press Return Key" because of the flood of calls asking where the "Any" key is.
