All of the comments listed below are transcribed exactly
from written evaluations on file with the respective schools
where the classes were held.
Not all classes I taught had extensive written evaluation
procedures, but these 11 examples represent eight different
classes.
And yes, of course these are some of the very best comments.
After all, authors don't put "Eh, I guess it was OK" comments
on their new book's dustjacket.
But for what it's worth, the students who submitted these comments
received four A's, four B's and three C's, respectively.

Summer 1996
Fall 1995
"Mick Doherty created a great learning environment. He is easy to talk to, always easy to reach for help over e-mail and encourages the class to interact together. I think that Mick is an excellent teacher also because he's not just the teacher but a resource and a guide which enables him to come down to our level which in turn helps us to talk to him. There aren't any real weak points. I rate him very highly." Fall 1993
"Wow. All I can say is that this was a dynamite class. It was interesting beyond compare. The material was thought-provoking and Mike created an environment in which learning was the chief objective. Without a doubt, Mike is the most helpful, successful teacher I have this semester." "Doherty's class was truly a new experience for me. He is an incredible instructor and I would encourage anyone to take a class that he may be teaching. I love this class and it changed my life." Spring 1993
Spring 1993 -- comments are from different sections
"Mike makes a student want to learn and get good grades, I don't know how he does it ... he just does! I feel confident with my writing now. However, I also know that it takes hard work, and a lot of time to make a paper good. Mike is the best teacher I have had so far." Fall 1992
