Imagining the Future
Of course, it's hard to predict what Jetnet will look like in two or five or ten years. If a similar question about employee communications had been posed in 1991, the likely response would have been "The Internet? What's that?" So we don't know for sure what's next.
That's not to say there isn't a plan. Diane Dunn, the e-Business manager who shepherded the Jetnet team through its initial project phase, says "This is just the beginning. We'll be rolling out additional features to make Jetnet a world-class employee communications center." Wagner agrees, adding, "Jetnet will be an even more dynamic vehicle, continuing to evolve with new applications and features and breaking news, but will hopefully strike a balance with the need to be familiar and easy to use for employees."
She realizes that "it will be critical to prevent Jetnet from getting stale, so ultimately, employees are saying, 'Jetnet is the one place to go for the information, tools, and support I need to make the most of my work and family life.'" "Eventually," believes Watson, "Jetnet will be the first screen you see as you log on to any AA or Eagle desktop. It will become the doorway into all information processing tasks and will enable you to stay connected to what's going on at the company wherever you are and whatever you need to do." Regardless, Wagner concludes, "We'd like to hear feedback from all employees about what types of applications and information can best increase productivity."
