| This bridge is where Lake Shore Drive crosses the Chicago river. Just beyond the bridge in this picture is Lake Michigan.
|
| This is the famous Buckingham Fountain. It is located in a large park near the shore on the east side of downtown Chicago. The tall, black building in the distance on the left part of the picture is the Sears Tower.

| This is a view of a lighthouse on Lake Michigan. It was taken from a tourist boat, the Sea Dog.
|
| Downtown Chicago as seen from the John Hancock building at night (looking southwest). This picture doesn't do the view justice, but you can get some idea of how it looks. Most of the lights in the sky are actually reflections on the glass window of the observation deck, but the two white, vertical columns in the center of the picture are the antennas of the Sears Tower.

| A view of downtown as seen from Lake Michigan.
|
| Another shot of the city from the lake. The black, monolithic building with the twin, striped antennas is the John Hancock building. The Navy Pier can be seen in the right-hand forground. It is a popular shopping and recreation center.

| A closer view of the Navy Pier (with ferris wheel) and the John Hancock building (the right-most black building). The curvy black building in the middle is an apartment building, Lake Point Tower.

| A view from the top of the Sears Tower (looking north). Here you can see where the Chicago river (on the right) splits into the North and South Chicago Rivers (top and bottom, respectively). The drawbridge in the center of the picture is part of Lake Street. On the left can be seen a small part of the many, many railyards in the city.
|
| Another view from the Sears Tower (looking southeast). This tangled cloverleaf is the intersection of Interstate 290 (running top-to-bottom) and Interstates 90/94 (running left-to-right). See if you can figure out where each road leads to and from!

| A northeast view from the Sears Tower. The dark John Hancock building dominates the skyline here. Some of the floors in the John Hancock building contain resedential apartments; imagine living that far up! Behind the buildings is Lake Michigan, extending to the horizon.

| This shot captures an elevated train in motion above a city street (Jackson Blvd., I think). The train tracks here make up part of Chicago's famous Loop, a network of elevated railways that more or less encircle much of downtown. The trains also run out into the surrounding metropolitan area in all directions to carry commuters back and forth.
