Below are some pictures I took in and around San Diego, California in December of 1999.

Buildings on San Diego Bay Sailboats on San Diego Bay
These pictures were taken from a boat in San Diego Bay. You can rent motorboats at several locations on the bay to tour the area.

Beach
This photograph shows a stretch of beach in Coronado, California. Coronado is a city that lies on the small peninsula across the bay from San Diego. Nearby is the historic Hotel del Coronado which is known for its many famous guests over the years.

Ocean Sunset No. 1 Ocean Sunset No. 2
These sunsets, also photographed on Coronado Beach, were taken on different days. All of the sunsets on the Pacific Ocean must be beautiful. In the left picture, you can just make out the silhouettes of two ships on the horizon.

Desert Scene No. 1 Desert Scene No. 2
These two pictures were taken to the east of San Diego, in the desert. The picture on the left features an emergency call box located on the side of the road. A novelty car antenna decoration from the Jack in the Box restaurants has "snuck" into the picture on the right.

Mountain Scene No. 1 Mountain Scene No. 2
Here are some scenic mountain views from the desert. The picture on the right was taken from a moving car...hence the blurred foreground.

Point Loma Lighthouse
The Point Loma Lighthouse is located on Point Loma (and is part of the Cabrillo National Monument), which overlooks San Diego and San Diego Bay. The lighthouse is no longer in operation, but you can tour the inside which has been restored look as it would have when the lighthouse was in use.

San Diego Bay from Point Loma
Seen from far above, on Point Loma, this is the outlet of San Diego Bay into the Pacific Ocean. The flat brown area on the left is part of North Island Naval Air Station which is run by the U.S. Navy. The tall buildings in the background are across the bay (the bay is hidden from view) in San Diego.

Point Loma
Here is a cliff in the Point Loma and Cabrillo National Monument area. There is a large white statue of someone on the cliff. It can just barely be made out in this picture with people crowded around its base.

Interesting Building
Here's an interesting group of buildings, also in the Point Loma and Cabrillo National Monument area. It may belong to the U.S. Navy, which has many facilities in the San Diego area.

Path
This is a walking path to the shoreline in the Cabrillo National Monument.

View from Pier
This picture was taken from a pier, somewhere in the San Diego area, looking back towards land. The white building with the blue awnings on the left is a small restaurant that is actually on the pier, about halfway out from land.

Harbor Seals
The four gray lumps in the middle of the picture are harbor seals resting on some rocks along the shores of the Pacific. The picture was taken from La Jolla Beach. (La Jolla is pronounced "lah HOY-uh".) La Jolla Beach is a popular place to visit a scenic and rocky shoreline in the La Jolla neighborhood in the northern part of San Diego. You can park at many places along La Jolla Boulevard, which follows the shoreline, to visit the beach.

Tijuana Scene 1 Tijuana Scene 2
Here are some scenes of Tijuana in Baja California, Mexico. You can park your car on the southern border of the United States and walk across the border to Mexico. (Be sure to bring proper identification in order to return to the U.S. without any problems!) This part of Tijuana is filled with a lot of souvenir shops (as seen in the picture on the left...you can see the Mexican flag flying in the distance), restaurants, and pharmacies for American tourists.

Valley Scene 1 Valley Scene 2
Here are a couple of scenic valleys. The one on the left is a view of part of San Diego. The scene on the right shows the small city of Borrego Springs, located in the desert to the northeast of San Diego.
