It's good to see fellow sax players on the Net.
You have a very nice web site going here. I was wondering
if you might be able to add some basic tips on fixing minor
saxophone prolems; ie. air leaks, rod damage, etc.?

Comments: I found your homepage by searching on the AltaVista search. I have been playing sax for 30 years and have played mostly in casual bands in the Los Angeles area. It was alot of fun until the DJ's took over the market in 1992. Since then my band hasn't worked nearly as much and we eventually said "Forget it!!" and disbanded in 1995. That's the life of a musician, rignt??? Now I play flute with my 9 year old son when he practices his tenor sax for school band. Isn't it ironic that after 30 years of playing my 4th grade son plays more often than I do?? I also play keyboards and interface them with my computer. Old musicians never die, they just go MIDI!!

Comments: I play Tenor Saxophone in the Crabtowne Big Band in Annapolis, Maryland. A 17 piece "genuine" big band. Most of the guys in the band have regular day gigs and do this as a labor of love. We perform every wednesday night in the King of France Tavern in Annapolis. Many great jazz artists have passed
through this club. The band has been together since 1981, and I have been in the band since 1984.
The band has had the pleasure of backing up Ethel Ennis and John Pizzarelli in the last couple of years.
Great fun. I have also had the pleasure of talking with Ron Holloway on several occassions when he has played at the King of France Tavern. A very nice guy and terrific person.

I play the sax myself...Tenor mostly. Heavy into Jazz (I play a lot
of street corners in Omaha's Old Market area). But I'd rather
be known as a decent Legit player. Oh well. Never met anyone famous.
Once again, great page.

Comments: Looking around. I mailed you a few months ago about the poke
at Yamaha saxophones. I'm beginning to think that the lines
between Selmer and Yamaha(in terms of NEW saxes) are as divided
as the lines between Ford and Chevrolet. I have recently added
a Yamaha custom soprano , and along with the YTS-62, I think
Yamaha has addressed the soft metal and adjustment problems.
Nice page... keep up the good work!

I am located in Cape Girardeau, just in case you're close
would like to hear a great band ;) Anyway, I was going to
go the Yamaha Custom route, but I would MUCH rather have
a Mark VI. Do you know of any good links at to where I could

It's an old horn but it still has about 90% of the laquer and is great. I wouldn't give it up for a VI or anything. Love to talk jazz, horns, repair or anything there in. I would like to learn anything I can about anything, Especially if ya know anything about Sonny Rollins, repair, or puttin' combos together. I'll be back soon. Ryan.

Comments: I am 13 and I play the tenor. I play at Green Valley First

Assembly Of God. I play in both the song services and in a

youth band that consists of a piano/flute/clarinete, a

bass/clarinete, a tenor, and an acoustic guitar. God is doing

great things with us. We live in a retired community where

there is a great need for ministries. I play by ear and

inspiration. The piano/etc. player is the one with this

starnet account which I share partly with him. His name is

Willie Alberty. He is starting a buisness that speacializes

partly in web sites. When he sees yours he'll be greatly

impressed as I was. The construction worker is awesome.

I noticed you are music director for the Methodist Church.

I would be interested in hearing some ways you minister and

if you play by ear, arranged music, chords, whatever.

I would be greatly interested and appreciative of it.

Noted your interest in church music. My sax quartet and ensemble rehearse at my church.
We have offered to play for services in lieu of rent. However, we are having trouble finding
music we find interesting which would be appropriate for a service.
We plan on using an octet version of "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" and the ten
sax arrangement of "Lord's Prayer" if it is ever actually published!
Would appreciate any suggestions you might have.
