Name: Rich McMahon Website: Don't have one yet... Referred by: Just Surfed On In! From: Lawrenceville, GA Time: 1997-04-06 13:08:00 Comments: I am considering buying an alto. I played in school from 4th grade through 12th. My horns were stolen about 10 years ago. I had a great Buffet Crampon Alto, a pretty well used Selmer straight soprano, and a Conn C melody Tenor that cost me more to re-pad than to purchase. I've been hoping to get lucky and find a deal in the local pawn shops, but no luck yet!! Thanks for your cool page. I had no idea that Ray Charles played Saxophones either. Take it easy, Rich |

I am a sax player from the 60's and 70's, having been the leader of a band called "Charisma" who played for Cuba Gooding Jr's dad Cuba Gooding Sr. of Main Ingredient fame. How inspired I am, so much so that I am inclined to pick up my sax which I have not played professinally since 1979. Keep up the good work and I will be sure to vist again. Cal |

Name: Rick McDuffie Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In! From: Dunn, N.C. Time: 1997-03-25 11:05:00 Comments: Enjoyed your homepage. I own a music store and we buy and sell used band instruments and do rentals. We "sub" our repairs out to a guy down in Fayetteville. He is a very good repairman, but seems to dislike working on saxes. This seems weird, because he is woodwind man. He has had a Yanigasawa tenor of mine for over a year, and keeps promising to "have it ready tomorrow". His turnaround on clarinets, flutes, etc. is generally very good. So... what's the deal? Are they that ugly to work on? Got any ideas. Thanks |

I've finally decided on going to Temple University which is located in Philadelphia. I'm going to major in music education and jazz studies. I've played the sax since fourth grade (so about 8 years now and I love it). It's my life. I'm in the Jazz band at school and try and play whenever I can. Hopefully, I'll be taking private lessons with Marshall Taylor (a classical sax player) for the first two years at Temple and then from Larry Mckenna (he is a jazz saxophonist) for the next three years at Temple. Hey, if you have the time (this goes for everyone) drop down to #saxophone on irc.another.net (the server I use is irc.neato.org) It would be cool to have a lot of people on there. |

Jackson, Tenn. isn't a very big town, is it? We may well have a mutual acquaintance ... Ron Brooks is a visual artist who opened an art gallery in your area about 10 years ago. If you know him and see him, tell him Linda & Craig says "Hi from Houmas". More importantly, if you could get Isaac Tigrett to send me his e-mail address, I would be most grateful. Loved the jokes - mine are mostly cajun - not musical. |

Is he still performing ? I'm a 51-year-old high school level clarinet and sax player. I'm mostly in demand locally because I show up on time. I haven't found a C-melody sax yet, but have a bunch of other obsolete instruments...occasionally use my C clarinet, and never have a reason to use my D clarinet. I'm a sheet music collector, particularly interested in "Songs about Money and Finance". I have about 850 now, in case someone wants to do a long medley sometime. I'll be back. New to the internet, our family is enjoying it ! |

Name: Mike Murphy Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In! From: San Diego, CA Time: 1997-02-06 13:03:00 Comments: Trying to find the value, the probable range of restoration cost$$, and any info on a battered Silvertone sax I bought from a thrift shop....the "gooseneck?" is missing, but a couple of other pieces, although broken off at the mounting spots/solder? places, are in the case, which looks original -the instrument is 30" long without the "gooseneck" and the bell? is 6" in diameter. Only markings I can see are "made in Elkhart". As I remember, Silvertone is the name Sears, Roebuck put on everything back in the old days...I'm 58 and procrastinating forward toward learning music....been collecting books and instruments for some time now; figured that after obtaining some mastery (HA!) of the personal computer, improving my typing speed (getting the brain and the finger- tips connected), and listening to some music, would be prepared to proceed with a patience I sure didn't have as a kid.......didn't understand that 99% of us need to learn music, and that 95% need to learn drawing, so went with English, which came to me "naturally". But always secretly wanted to become proficient in music and play a few instruments....first noticed the sax when listening to Little Richard's band in Salinas, CA in 1957....as you know, in those days the big R&B groups had at least 3 sax players out front.....another anecdote of sorts...in 1980 while going through divorce, midlife crisis and the associated woes, went to my first "Urban Cowboy" type club in San Jose, CA (the "Saddlerack")...huge place....bouncers had to travel in pairs...to hear the guy who did "Take This Job and Shove It"....he was so bad (seemed messed up) that I've forgotten his name, BUT his keyboard player, toward the end of the performance, picked up a sax and stopped the place cold!!! So, years later, I bought this cheap old busted sax and... ..Take It! |
