Carl Perkins The Sax Doctor

Each year prior to his death on Jan. 19, 1998, Jackson native Carl Perkins hosted a telethon in support of the Exchange Club - Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. Carl, as you know, was an internationally known star, most famous for "Blue Suede Shoes", and considered by many to be "The Godfather of Rock and Roll". In 1996 it was my pleasure to perform for this very worthwhile cause... and my extreme honor to receive an introduction by Carl.

I had known Carl since 1978 when I moved to Jackson from Paris, TN. He was a member of the Bemis United Methodist Church where I serve as Choir Director.

The pictures seen here are taken from the video of the telethon, and show Carl introducing me... and shots of my performance. The center... and the telethon... will continue it's work for the abused children of West Tennessee. The legacy of Carl Perkins will be far more than his musical accomplishments... he made a DIFFERENCE in people's lives. We miss him... and are grateful for having known him.
