Art

Oct 1- Nov 28 9-4:30 pm - The Ned - My Favorite Things by Floyd Speck - This exhibit consists of works done entirely in watercolor or watercolor mixed with other media. As the title suggests, the works feature subjects that are favorites of the artist and are primarily landscapes and florals. Speck's works are rich with texture and implied detail and frequently feature layers of color applied with sponge, spatter, and stipple to create a tapestry-like effect.

Oct 1- Nov 28 9-4:30 pm - The Ned - Color of Fall - Works of Art in brilliant splashes of color using oils, watercolor, acrylic & pastels feature fall flowers and foliage designs.

Oct 15-30 - Everett Horn Public Library, Lexington - Exhibit of framed art by Henderson County artists. Call 968-3239 to register your artwork.

Education

Oct 1-24, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-9pm - Jackson State - ACT Preparation. Fee: $139

Oct 5-Dec 7, Saturdays 8am-noon - Jackson State - GED 2002:Computer Assisted Exam Preparation. No previous computer experience necessary. Fee: $147

Oct 7 - Nov 25, Mondays 6-8 pm - Jackson State - English as a second language. Fee: $159 includes book.

Fitness

Every Tuesday and Wednesday 10:45 am - Bennett - Exercise with YMCA Instructor - Get a good low impact workout, Teresa Morgan knows which exercises will increase stamina and leave your body in great condition.

Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30-6:30 pm - Lambuth University - Water Aerobics - Stay in shape and have fun with water aerobics. Swimming skills not required. (pay per visit)

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 12:30-1:30 pm - Union University Pool Aquatics Fitness R/NR Fee: $1/$2

Outdoors

Register by Oct 2, classes start Oct 8 - Hardeman County Agriculture Extension Service - Master Gardener training Classes. Call Finis Stribling III at 658 - 2421. 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month 6-9 pm - Westwood Recreation Center - Southwest Tenn. Woodcarver's Assn. - If you're a woodcarver, or want to learn, join to learn and share new carving techniques, demonstrations and fellowship.

Jackson Adventure Club - Outdoor adventures and fun for the whole family. Our monthly newsletter will list upcoming day trips, weekend adventures, classes and workshops. Call Sandy MacDiarmid at 425 - 8316.

Volunteer Opportunities - Love nature? Wildlife? Our Environment? We're in need of a few good volunteers like you. If you enjoy sharing your interest in nature with others, become a Friend of Cypress Grove as a Trail Guide, Volunteer Educator, Raptor Specialist or a Junior Naturalist (ages 13-16).
