S&S Street Rods

We build the 50's style Low Budget Street Rods.

It all started in 1998 by: Scott and Sharon Umbel.  S&S Street Rods is just what our friends call us. Its not a profession just a hobby. We build these cars to keep. They are not for sale.

My wife and I bought a 1931 Ford 5 window coupe that was all but totally gone in 1994. I remember when I said that I wanted it, she just shook her head and said ,"then get it".  Of course, she didn't think it would ever run, and my best friend, was at my house when I got home to help get it off of the pickup truck I hauled it home in. and I will never forget his face when he saw what I had bought.  He just looked at my father and said "Mr. Umbel, your son has lost it". Well, with a lot of determination, creativity and help from my wife and dad, eight months later I was driving the 1931 Ford Coupe. Our first ride was without any floors, windows, and a stick from a tree branch (literally) for the shifter. What a ride it was! We went to a car show in Carlisle Pa. where I met a man that sold a disc brake kit for the model A Fords. When he told me that all I had to do was change my spindles to 40 and up to accommodate the kit, I said "no way".  I wanted to use my original spindles and he said it was impossible. I came home that weekend and designed my own kit for the Model A's original spindles and have used it on every Model A we have done since.
