The Weaver High School Class of '67 Memorial Scholarship

Our class has established a Memorial Scholarship to remember our earliest friends who are no longer with us. It will be given to a Weaver senior who faces a reality most of us never worried about in 1967 -- we want to help a student who supports his or her family while going to school. The scholarship student must be on the honor roll, have definite plans to continue his or her education, be a role model for other students, and support his or her family. The faculty scholarship committee will meet this spring and use our criteria to select the recipient; the scholarship will be awarded at graduation in June.

See what their guidence councelors said about this year's recipients:

Vanessa Mayuri seems quiet and unassuming, yet she ranks #4 in Weaver High School’s Senior class, and was voted last year’s President of the Human Relations Club. Vanessa is extremely busy, working a part-time job and helping to care for and support her family, yet she has been a member of the girl’s softball team. In the face of daunting life challenges Vanessa has involved herself in a wide range of constructive activities as well as the most challenging classes that she could, and has prevailed and excelled. She plans to pursue Forensic Science at the University of New Haven.

and Chadell Campbell:

I am delighted to share my impression of a smart, confident and ambitious young lady. Chadell displays a quiet and somewhat reserved demeanor. However, under that quietness, she is highly motivated to do well academically. This aggressive approach has placed her seventh in her senior class. She was among the few students who had decided to get their college application in before thanksgiving. In so doing Chadell had received acceptance before she went for Christmas break. This speaks to the drive, motivation and initiative that she holds dearly.

Presently she is accepted and is choosing to attend Southern Connecticut State University where she will pursue a major in Mathematics. I am confident that she will do well and she has a lot to offer her.
